Cincinnati to close Ohio River intake to prevent any contamination from train derailment

Water works officials said out of an abundance of caution, they will be shutting off the Ohio River intake ahead of the anticipated arrival of the last detectable chemical concentration in the river.

According to GCWW, the latest modeling indicates that any chemicals remaining in the Ohio River will likely pass through the Cincinnati area early on Sunday, Feb. 19.

While the water intake is shut off, GCWW will temporarily switch to water reserves, officials said.

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine said they are continuing to monitor the Ohio River, saying Friday that sampling has shown the chemical plume has completely dissipated and they are no longer getting any reading of contaminants.

DeWine said water test results show municipal water in East Palestine is safe to drink following a train derailment and chemical spill.

Protesters rally in Oxford against draconian 15-minute city 'ghetto' plans, 'traffic filter' scheme

Following a wave of online misinformation and abuse aimed at Oxford County Council staff over the proposed traffic filters scheme, hundreds of protestors have gathered in Oxford city centre this afternoon to protest the supposed implementation of 15-minute cities.

Comment: As we'll see, it's the journalist that's most misinformed, not the protesters.

The Oxfordshire County Council, supported by the Oxford City Council, proposed the trial installation of traffic filters on six roads within Oxford, which is set to begin in 2024.

Comment: 'Traffic filters', sounds harmless enough, except...

The traffic filters will be similar to standard traffic cameras that read number plates, fining drivers without an exemption or residents' permit if they pass the filter at certain times of the day. This scheme aims to reduce congestion on specific roads by encouraging drivers to take alternate routes at the busiest times of the day. The concept was first introduced in the 2015 Oxford Transport Strategy, though it has since undergone some changes following a consultation of local residents.

Retail giant Lidl to sell less meat in sinister plant-based food push

Lidl supermarket

Grocery major Lidl has reportedly announced that it plans to reduce its animal-based products and increase its plant-based lines.

The German retailer will transition toward plant-based options due to environmental concern, according to Plant Based News.

During Berlin's Green Week, agri-food trade fair, Christoph Graf, chief buyer of Lidl, talked about the supermarket group's future in the meatless industry. He reportedly said that there is 'no alternative' to reducing meat options in Lidl as there is 'no second planet'.

Graf reportedly claimed this will allow people more access to cost-effective alternative proteins and should be treated as a positive decision.

Comment: Since the establishment's behavioural engineers have failed to convince people to eat less meat, the next step to destroy people's health, is to simply remove meat from the shelves.

The agenda is all the more obvious because this follows the brazen attacks on farmers, food plant processor sabotage, as well as the push to get people to eat parasite-riddled insects; which recently hit a new low with the EU's approval to allow food manufacturers to use bugs in the produce: Also check out SOTT radio's: Behind the Headlines: Dissecting the Vegetarian Myth - Interview with Lierre Keith

Dozens of angry demonstrators attacked several banks in Beirut on Thursday after the Lebanese pound hit a record low, AFP journalists said, amid a deepening economic crisis.

Lebanon's cash-strapped banks have imposed strict restrictions on withdrawals, barring depositors from accessing their savings, especially those in US dollars.

The pound is trading at about 80,000 to the greenback on the black market versus 60,000 at the start of the month, according to exchange rate monitors.

And then they came for the kids' books: Woke censors ruin Roald Dahl

Roald Dahl
Roald Dahl
Woke censors have destroyed the much-loved works of Roald Dahl.

'Sensitivity readers' at Puffin have painstakingly gone through his classic books removing the vivid, darkly funny writing that captivated so many of us as children, replacing it with bland, woke platitudes and outright propaganda.

If your response to this is blind rage, then congratulations, you are a healthy functioning human being.

There is something laughable about the fact that, with J.K. Rowling and now Roald Dahl, two of woke's biggest targets are children's authors. But then, the wokes clearly know the importance of indoctrinating the young as early as possible into their deranged and pernicious ideology.

Taliban outlaws contraception in two cities

Taliban fighters have stopped the sale of contraceptives in two of Afghanistan's main cities, claiming their use by women is a western conspiracy to control the Muslim population.

The Guardian has learned that the Taliban has been going door to door, threatening midwives and ordering pharmacies to clear their shelves of all birth control medicines and devices.

"They came to my store twice with guns and threatened me not to keep contraceptive pills for sale. They are regularly checking every pharmacy in Kabul and we have stopped selling the products," said one store owner in the city.

A veteran midwife, who did not want to be named, said she had been threatened several times. She said she was told by a Taliban commander: "You are not allowed to go outside and promote the western concept of controlling population and this is unnecessary work."

Other pharmacists in Kabul and Mazar-i-Sharif confirmed that they have been ordered not to stock any birth control medicines.

"Items such as birth control pills and Depo-Provera injections are not allowed to be kept in the pharmacy since the start of this month, and we are too afraid to sell the existing stock," another shop owner in Kabul said.

Comment: They're not entirely wrong. Regardless of one's thoughts on the matter, it's undeniable that the international push for "reproductive rights" the world over has been for reasons other than those stated.

Canada may offer assisted suicide to children

A panel of Canadian lawmakers has called for the country's assisted suicide program to be extended to minors, even in cases where their parents object to the decision to end their lives.

The special committee of MPs and senators, which was charged with reviewing Ottawa's so-called "medical assistance in dying" (MAiD) program, issued a series of recommendations this week in Canada's House of Commons. The report urged the government to amend its law on assisted suicide to make the service available to minors deemed to have "the requisite decision-making capacity."

Comment: Since you can choose your gender whenever you want, this is not promising.

Assisted suicide should be available only to "mature minors" whose "natural death is reasonably foreseeable," the committee said. The government would need to establish standards for assessing a youngster's capacity to make such a decision, the report added, but the lawmakers offered no specifics on how imminent a person's death would need to be for the government to help end their life.

The committee also suggested that parents or guardians should be consulted on their child's suicide decision "where appropriate." However, Ottawa also should require that "the will of a minor who is found to have the requisite decision-making capacity take priority," according to the report.

Comment: When seen in a wider context, this development takes on a predictable and somewhat more disturbing meaning: This policy just happens to coincide with the WEF neo-Malthusian agenda, but that must just be a coincidence.

Cruel Biden admin turns down Ohio's request for FEMA assistance after toxic derailment: 'Not a natural disaster'- UPDATE: Biden shamed into sending in FEMA ahead of Trump visit

'FEMA continues to tell Governor DeWine that Ohio is not eligible for assistance,' governor's office says

The Biden administration turned down a request for federal disaster assistance from Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine in the aftermath of the train derailment in the state earlier this month that led to a large release of toxic chemicals.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) told Ohio's state government that it was not eligible for disaster assistance to help the community recover from the toxic spill, Dan Tierney, a spokesperson for DeWine, told Fox News Digital on Thursday. Tierney explained that FEMA believed the incident didn't qualify as a traditional disaster, such as a tornado or hurricane, for which it usually provides assistance.

"The DeWine Administration has been in daily contact with FEMA to discuss the need for federal support, however FEMA continues to tell Governor DeWine that Ohio is not eligible for assistance at this time," DeWine's office said in a statement earlier in the day. "Governor DeWine will continue working with FEMA to determine what assistance can be provided."

Comment: And there you have it: full-blown pathocracy on display. "If it doesn't tick the required boxes, then not our problem."

Kamala articulates the guiding principle. One wonders if the same response would have come from FEMA if this disaster had happened in say, Mississippi.

UPDATE 18/02/2023: Breitbart reports:
"Following further discussions with FEMA tonight, they will be deploying federal resources to East Palestine," the Ohio governor said.

In a statement released Thursday — before it was announced that FEMA will be deployed to East Palestine — the Ohio governor's office said it had been in daily contact with FEMA to discuss the need for federal support, but that "FEMA continues to tell Governor DeWine that Ohio is not eligible for assistance at this time."

Gov. DeWine's press secretary Dan Tierney told Breitbart News on Thursday that the situation in East Palestine was considered ineligible for a FEMA disaster declaration because — while the train derailment is clearly a disaster — it technically did not involve destruction of property.

"We are ineligible for a FEMA disaster declaration, we've been told by FEMA that we will not meet the qualifications at this time," Tierney said at the time. "And the reason for that is that FEMA disaster declarations are related to property damage, and solely property damage."

In addition to Friday's announcement that FEMA will now be deployed to East Palestine, DeWine's office also revealed that Ohio is setting up a medical clinic in the town this upcoming week "to engage with residents, answer questions, evaluate any symptoms, and provide medical expertise."

The governor's office added that in response to a request from DeWine, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) will be sending federal officials to East Palestine to support the clinic.

The announcement of FEMA being deployed to East Palestine arrives on the heels of it being revealed that former President Donald Trump plans to visit the small Ohio town next week.

Google 'harmful speech' case at Supreme Court risks upending the internet as we know it

An upcoming Supreme Court case could answer one of the toughest questions of the internet age: Should online companies be held responsible for promoting harmful speech?

The case, Gonzalez v. Google, could upend the modern internet economy, sparing no online business. A ruling against Google will likely leave internet companies - from social media platforms to travel websites to online marketplaces - scrambling to reconfigure their businesses to avoid costly lawsuits.

The case, which will be argued Tuesday, tests whether Google's YouTube can be held liable for automated recommendations of Islamic State terrorism videos.
