Moderna: A company "in need of a Hail Mary"

Before COVID-19, Moderna was in danger of hemorrhaging investors, as persistent safety concerns and other doubts about its mRNA delivery system threatened its entire product pipeline. Fear caused by the pandemic crisis made those concerns largely evaporate, even though there is no proof that they were ever resolved.

Those analyzing the COVID-19 crisis and its effects have mostly focused on how its disruptive nature has led to major shifts and recalibrations throughout society and the economy. Such disruption has also lent itself to a variety of agendas that had required an event of "reset" potential in order to be realized. In the case of the vaccine industry, COVID-19 has led to dramatic changes in how federal agencies manage the approval of medical countermeasures during a declared crisis, how trials for vaccine candidates are conducted, how the public perceives vaccination, and even how the term "vaccine" is defined.

Such shifts, though obvious, have provoked praise from some and sharp criticism from others, with the latter category being largely censored from public discourse on television, in print, and online. However, in objectively analyzing such seismic changes, it's clear that most of these shifts in vaccine development and vaccine policy dramatically favor speed and the implementation of new and experimental technology at the expense of safety and thorough study. In the case of vaccines, it can be argued that no one benefitted more from these changes than the developers of the COVID-19 vaccines themselves, particularly the pharmaceutical and biotechnology company Moderna.

Swiss police used a water cannon, rubber bullets and tear gas to break up an anti-Covid protest on Thursday after a crowd of demonstrators broke through barriers outside the federal capital's parliament building.

The unauthorized protest saw around 500 critics of the government's Covid-19 restrictions gather for a weekly demonstration, as activists continue to reject the coronavirus health pass that has been in place since September 13

Best of the Web: 'We're in the middle of a major biological catastrophe': COVID expert Dr. Peter McCullough

Prominent physician Dr. Peter McCullough recently provided a well-documented lecture on the "catastrophe" of COVID-19 "gene-transfer" vaccines, the "loaded weapon" of the spike protein they produce, and the high effectiveness early treatments.

He also detailed the malfeasance, fraud, and conflicts-of-interest committed by U.S. medical officials.

McCullough, who has made the case that he is the world's foremost authority on the topic, set the tone for his remarks when he began to address a full hotel ballroom in Michigan on September 24.

"I think the reason why everybody's here is we have a sense that something very bad is going on in the world. And I'm here to tell you, I think it is," he said.

"If you feel tension right now and you feel some emotional distress and if you feel as if things aren't going right ... I think your perceptions are correct," the physician continued.

"And if your perceptions are correct, now's the time for action."

SOTT Focus: George Monbiot's Far-Right Projection

In seeking to attack Covid sceptics as modern day Nazis, the veteran eco-warrior endorses ideas taken straight from the fascist hymn sheet.

George Monbiot is shocked.

But what has shocked George is not the rising tide of poverty and starvation in the world or the unprecedented transfer of wealth to a tiny number of oligarchs.

He is not shocked by the practical collapse of the rule of law or by the brutal actions of police officers in nations claiming to be liberal democracies.

It is possible that these things shock him as well, but if so, there is no sign of this in his recent article for the Guardian.

Comment: Monbiot is like an older male Greta, only more articulate.

Italy's vaccine uptake slows despite threat of mandate on Oct 15th

As Italy falls just short of its goal of vaccinating 80% of the population, the impending requirement for all workers to show a health certificate has yet to make a significant impact on the immunisation effort.

For a moment, it looked as though the Italian government would reach its goal of vaccinating 80% of Italy's population against the coronavirus by the end of September.

On September 30th, the counter hovered at a tantalisingly close 78.5%.

Comment: 'Tantalisingly'? That an invasive, coercive, and potentially deadly, medical procedure, that violates human rights and seeks to divide society, can be referred to in such a way reveals just how warped some people's thinking has become; more spefically, those who support draconian vaccine mandates.

A couple of weeks earlier, in a push to make it over the finish line, government ministers passed a decree making it obligatory for all workers to produce a health certificate or 'green pass' to enter the workplace from October 15th.

7 States Push Noncitizen Voting, 4 States Say No

Litigation in Vermont has highlighted the expanding trend of noncitizen voting, which two cities in that state recently allowed. Municipalities in California and Maryland similarly allow noncitizens to vote in local elections. Other jurisdictions are considering doing so.

So far, these efforts to allow noncitizens to vote don't apply to national elections for president or Congress, nor to state offices such as governor or state legislator. For Democrats especially, though, this has been an emerging issue.

In July, The New York Times published an essay by Atossa Araxia Abrahamian, a senior editor at The Nation, under the headline "There Is No Good Reason You Should Have to Be a Citizen to Vote."

Congress passed legislation in 1996 to prohibit noncitizens from voting in federal elections. State constitutions vary, although so far the idea has been entirely a local matter. It has been more popular in local jurisdictions of some states than in others. Local laws giving the vote to noncitizens also vary. Some apply only to legal residents, such as green card holders. Others apply to illegal immigrants as well.

In a 2017 article, Joshua Douglas, a law professor at the University of Kentucky, identified 14 states that don't explicitly prohibit local governments from making noncitizens eligible to vote: Arkansas, California, Colorado, Illinois, Maryland, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, Ohio, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Washington, and Wisconsin.

French police arrest British man on London-bound Eurostar train 'for wearing wrong type of face mask'

Armed French police have boarded a London-bound Eurostar and arrested a British passenger after a train manager accused him of wearing "the wrong type of mask". The extraordinary drama saw the unidentified man - who is in his 40s and believed to be from Liverpool - being hauled off the train after it made an emergency stop in Lille, northern France.

He was then surrounded by at least eight uniformed officers, and then left stranded when the train resumed its journey to England. As he was led away in front of other stunned passengers on Thursday afternoon, he said:
"I've done nothing wrong and respect all coronavirus rules - this is absolutely outrageous. I have absolutely no idea what this is all about, except that a Eurostar staff member has taken a very strong dislike to me, and accused me of not wearing the right type of mask. Now I'm going to be left alone in France, when all I wanted to do is get home from a work trip. This is very cruel treatment. We should all be getting on, not treating each other like this."
Other passengers then complained about the unscheduled, unannounced stop in Lille that caused a delay of some 15 minutes:
"Why is Eurostar stopping its trains, and delaying hundreds of passengers, because of a petty dispute over one man's mask?"
The female Eurostar manager - who remained on the train after the man was taken into custody - confirmed she had reported him for wearing the "wrong type of mask" for preventing the spread of coronavirus.

Asked why the man had been forced off the train, one of the Lille police officers confirmed he had been arrested, and said: "We don't know why, we'll have to find out."

Mobility in Sydney during lockdown has been 50% lower during weekdays and down 70% at weekends, data from an Australian company studying people's movements has revealed. In Melbourne, mobility has also dropped, down 40%.

The people of Australia's most populous city, Sydney in New South Wales (NSW), have shown a significant adherence to stay-at-home orders, according to mobility numbers released by Australian analytics firm DSpark. Around the middle of the local lockdown, weekday movement in the area was down by 51%, and on weekends travel beyond 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) sank by 72%, reaching its lowest point, Australian news website News.com.au reported on Friday, citing DSpark.

Firing nurses who've worked through the pandemic is disgraceful

Across the United States, nurses and other healthcare workers are being fired for not getting vaccinated. Is there any better illustration of the folly of our public health establishment?

These nurses have served on the frontline for more than eighteen months, helping to treat COVID patients day after day, while most of the people demanding vaccine mandates were sitting at home on their laptops.

"Thanks for all your hard work. Oh, you don't want to get the vaccine? Well in that case, sayonara." In addition to being mean-spirited, the policy of firing unvaccinated healthcare workers doesn't really make any practical sense. And that's putting it charitably.

Seth Dillon and Tucker Carlson on Big Tech's attempts to suppress satire site The Babylon Bee

Dillion added that the efforts are "...really just aimed at curbing and silencing and ostracizing satire, comedy and thinkers that they don't like."

Seth Dillon, CEO of the satire site The Babylon Bee, joined Tucker Carlson on Fox News Wednesday night to discuss Facebook suppressing content on its platform.

Dillion discussed Big Tech censoring The Bee's content. "It starts with misinformation, right? I mean, we've been fact-checked to death, over and over again. It started out with this fact-check about CNN purchasing an industrial sized washing machine, so they could spin the news before publication, you know, and it's just been on and on and on from there... That was a fake story. Believe it or not."

"The social networks have been using these fact checkers to... control 'misinformation.' It's politically motivated and has been the whole time, and we're seeing like right now. We're seeing a drastic drop in traffic, a decline, a steady decline over the course of time."
