OF THE
TIMES
Briefly stated, the Gell-Mann Amnesia effect is as follows. You open the newspaper to an article on some subject you know well... You read the article and see the journalist has absolutely no understanding of either the facts or the issues. Often, the article is so wrong it actually presents the story backward—reversing cause and effect...
In any case, you read with exasperation or amusement the multiple errors in a story, and then turn the page to national or international affairs, and read as if the rest of the newspaper was somehow more accurate about Palestine than the baloney you just read. You turn the page, and forget what you know.

Combine "...radiation levels exceeded their measuring device's maximum reading of 10 sieverts per hour..." and "...the workers who found the reading were safely protected by antiradiation clothing..." and you have a picture of monumental spin and denial, propaganda.
Five sieverts total is a likely fatal dose, ten sieverts is certainly fatal. If those workers spent more than a few minutes in proximity to the area they are most likely the walking dead. And the "antiradiation clothing"? What is that? Paper jumpsuits? This is so sick and twisted it's criminal.
Oh, everything's under control by now, TEPCO and the Japanese government say. Bullshit! They're poisoning a large fraction of the Japanese population by not evacuating them and just writing them off. Mustn't upset the political apple cart, or bankrupt the inept nuke industry. It's sickening, and the Japanese should rise up and revolt.
