LAURA KNIGHT-JADCZYK AND JOE QUINN
Since the 9/11 attacks, no book has provided a satisfactory answer as to WHY the attacks occurred and who was ultimately responsible for carrying them out - until now.
has another Vista nightmare on its hands. I played with a Beta version of Windows 8 for about 6 months. The UI is an absolute users nightmare. It does have an option to switch to a more standard desktop, but if you do that you're basically using Windows 7. Good luck selling this piece of crap, they'll need every penny of that 1.5 billion.
In contrast to my immense enthusiasm for computers and the web back in what could now be called "the old times", I now don't know why people even bother having computers.
Generally speaking....
Have people become more intelligent because of computers?
No. Precisely the opposite, in fact - they've become considerably more stupiderer.
Did music become better because of computers?
No. It's unfathomably worse. Totally moronic.
Did films, literature, news media, design, fashion, architecture, art etc, become any better because of computers?
Has there been any improvement there? Any improvement at all?
Most certainly nope.
Agree, and would like to add the advent of a huge invasion of privacy which has come along with these devices. It would seem that to use a computer, one might as well sign a letter of intent for any interest, passing fancy, or purchase. I personally don't have much to hide but I don't like the idea of my every action being logged by some government bureaucrat for who knows what purpose.
On a different note, I recently had an email exchange with an individual who has a personal website which is used for internet sales and for announcements of product offerings. I mentioned an obvious mistake in a posting on the site and after numerous attempts to send illustrative screenshots and source inqueries was told that it was invisible or nonexisting on the PC of the website owner. I trust this indivual to tell the truth and the implications of the incident are truly unsettling. The take away here is that it is now difficult for me to believe anything I see on my monitor.
It's all smoke and mirrors, manipulated by unknown actors, for purposes unclear.
Pc growth measured by the innovation of the OS? What? Mac desktops/laptops have been running an OS that hasn't innovated much either... but are attractive just because they are "different".
So what there's no new Windows 8 to chase after. People still buy PC's because they are gads cheaper than Mac's and aren't technical enough to play with Linux.
Tablets are very popular, but some things are still better done with a desktop or laptop.
