My husband and I watched the early morning news (5:30am) (http://www.channel3000.com/news/23156204/detail.html) out of Madison, and they interviewed a woman who witnessed this event.(this hasn't been replayed all morning) She said that it seemed to "explode" over the Avoca/Spring Green area. She immediately began receiving reports (via Facebook) of fires east of Avoca "along a mile stretch of Co Hwy C where 9 fires, some on the ground, and some in the trees, were noted by firemen investigating the reports". I tried to find the link to this early report, but can't find this phone interview. She took pictures of the fires, which the TV station showed. There were also reports of sonic boom and earthquake-like shaking by residents as far away as Lancaster (my hometown!, which is 30-40 miles away from Avoca area
The channel 3 weather lady, Haddie, showed radar caught at 10:10pm showing the "possible meteor" path. (eastern Grant/western Iowa county. She said this was at 10000 feet.
We're east of Janesville (80 miles due East of Avoca) and my son saw a flash on his bedroom wall, and when he looked out his window he described a fireball that "seemed to be lobbed" as it fell to Earth"; it reminded him of fireworks.
This morning, when I walked into the bathroom, I could smell a sulfur-y odor, like someone had lit a match. That area of our home has no windows or doors so the air can be stagnant in that area. We had windows open last night because it was so mild and wonder if the "fall out" drifted on the westerly winds, and in through the windows.(?) A friend who lives 5 miles away, mentioned a "fog" she noticed around 11:30pm, when she went back out 20 minutes later it was gone.
Eye witnesses from the SW Wisconsin area note multiple fragments of this object. Suggest going to the link for some very interesting reports, pictures, and videos.
