Man severely injured in attack by his own dog in Waterville, Maine

Dog attack
A man was sent to the hospital with "horrendous" bite marks after he was attacked by his dog Friday morning, police said.

The attack occurred at 84 Front St. around 11 a.m. Waterville police Sgt. Alden Wiegelt said the man - whom police did not identify - is the owner of the dog, which was reported by police dispatchers as a pit bull.

Wiegelt said the man's injuries were serious enough to require transportation by Delta Ambulance to the hospital, but he said they did not appear to be life-threatening.

The incident apparently happened inside the home.
Police entered the building with a shield and animal restraining poles before leaving with the leashed dog, which was put into a kennel in the back of a police vehicle.

Police Chief Joseph Massey said police discovered the injured owner sitting outside with severe bite marks on his legs and arms and with "pieces of flesh" hanging off his legs. Massey also said the man was evasive in his answers to police about what happened.

"The dog was more cooperative than the owner," Massey said.

Shark attacks
It's the third time this week someone has been attacked by a shark in Florida waters, according to the Palm Beach Post.

In the most recent incident, a 16-year-old boy from Georgia was visiting Daytona during spring break, according to a report Thursday from WXIA, an Atlanta television station.

"I told my friend that I had felt something bite me and we got out of the water and (my foot) was bleeding," Kody Stephens told WXIA. "We went up and washed it and the hotel called 911. They showed up and looked at it."

Stevens told WXIA he didn't see what bit him because he got out of the water as fast as he could, and first responders told him the bite looked like it came from a shark.

'Scared' residents complain of 'epidemic' in Khabarovsk, arguing animal rights campaigners and 'kind-hearted' are endangering people by blocking preventative measures.

The attack on Ivan 'Vanya' Tsybenko, 12, on his way to school is an increasingly common occurrence in this city of 589,000, say locals.

His mother Tatiana fears he would have been killed if neighbours had not seen the attack and dragged the child into their car.

I walked my son to school 7.30 am on 4 April, and then went to take my younger boy to kindergarten,' she said.

'I walked several hundred meters away from school with a pushchair, when suddenly there was a call from Vanya, who screamed: 'Mama, dogs are attacking me!'

'I was too far away by then to see what was happening, but I heard my son screaming, and dogs howling and growling.

'I ran back, but with a small child on my hands I couldn't even help him.

'Thank God two women who were driving past saw the attack and pulled my boy inside their car.

'It was my neighbours , I don't know what would have happened if it wasn't for them.

A baby turtle was found to have two heads and six legs among a box of imported turtles
A bizarre video shows a baby turtle with two heads and six legs found in north China's Shanxi Province.

Footage shows the baby red-eared slider with two heads and six legs as it moves around normally.

Researchers from Shanxi Medicine and Life Science Academy told Chinese media that it was 'caused by genetic mutation, just like a human.'

Mr Wang, a reptile shop owner told Shanxi Metropolis Post that he bought a box of red-eared sliders from a wholesale market on March 29.

Surprisingly he found a baby turtle with two heads and six legs among the other turtles. However, the little red-eared slider can move and eat like just like the others.

'All the legs are moving and all the eyes are blinking. It eats normally and I believe this baby turtle is about two to three months old,' Wang told reporters.
