An "unusual" string of fatal snake bites has left three people dead in the US state of California in recent weeks, sparking concern among experts over a deadly spike in attacks.

The latest victim, a 78-year-old woman, died after being struck three times while walking on a rural property in Redwood Valley earlier this month.

Relatives rushed her to the hospital, but local authorities told Sky News that her health rapidly deteriorated and she passed away two days later.

Officers said her cause of death was due to "snake envenomation from snake bites", and a blood complication likely caused by the poison.

The tragedy follows the "rare" deaths of two other hikers in the region.

While around 8000 people are bitten by venomous snakes across the US every year, the country's Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that typically only five people die annually.

Belarus covered by spring snow and storm winds as Arctic air arrives

mmmmm
On April 26, arctic air arrived in Belarus, bringing snow, blizzards, and strong winds. In the western and southern regions of the country, rain turned into wet snow.

Scenes from various cities in Belarus — Grodno, Nesvizh, Slutsk — look more like January than the end of April.

The wind is gaining strength — gusts reach 15-20 m/s, and 20 m/s was recorded at the "Paleskaya" meteorological station. In the southwest of the country, the wind could intensify to a dangerous 25 m/s.

In Brest, the wind blew away the Varshavsky market.

During the day, temperatures across the country are expected to range from +4°C to +10°C. However, the weather remains unstable: in addition to snow, even local thunderstorms are possible against the backdrop of the cold front.

The precipitation zone continues to move southeast. Drivers should be very careful: the combination of strong winds and poor visibility makes driving on summer tires particularly dangerous.

Winter is back! Snow depth has exceeded 15 centimeters (6 inches) in Kars, Türkiye

mmmmm
The snowfall that was effective in mid-spring in Sarıkamış district of Kars once again covered the region in white. While the snow depth exceeded 15 centimeters in the district center, the surprise precipitation that came as the end of April approached caught citizens unprepared.

With the sudden drop in air temperatures, snowfall that began increased its effect from the night hours. In Sarıkamış, trees, vehicles, and roofs were covered with snow, creating postcard-like views across the district.

Due to heavy snowfall, transportation in the district center and surrounding village roads experienced occasional disruptions. While highway and municipality teams continued their efforts to keep the roads open, drivers were warned to be cautious.

A 58-year-old woman has died after being attacked by a bear in a remote mountainous area in southeastern Poland, the BBC reports.

The woman and her 27-year-old son were walking in a forest in the Bieszczady region, near Płoń, when the incident occurred. A firefighter at the scene said that, according to the woman's son, he was talking to his mother on the phone when she screamed that a bear was nearby and then the phone went silent. The son called emergency services, but by the time they arrived, the woman was dead. The firefighter said the woman had extensive lacerations to her head.

The Bukowsko Commune has urged local residents to avoid the forest.

There are about 100 brown bears in Poland, most of which live in the sparsely populated Bieszczady region, but fatal encounters with bears are extremely rare. Previous fatal bear attack in Poland took place in 2014.

Paweł Giba, a spokesman for the local emergency services, said firefighters received a call from the woman's son at around 10:30 a.m. local time.
