why do they call it meteor shower if what is described is one single fireball ?
but unfortunately, all i got was a black screen. It was pretty spectacular, but im not sure why peoples first thought was 'plane crash' as it was obviously waaaay too high- and not plummetting down. my first thought was 'sattelite reentry' because it was a bit bright looking for your usual meteorite at this time of year, which are mostly 'shooting stars' type; sans firey comet appearance.
I must admit: thanks to sott.net: i was a bit "oh shit" when i realised it was infact a meteor, and got paranoid all night that more would appear and bombard the place- we know its coming, after all.
Comment: It's very unlikely that the one in Australia was the same as the one in the UK. Meteors only light up like that when entering the final stages of their descent. If it were seen from Melbourne to Scotland, half the planet would surely have sat up and taken notice!
