That doesn't sound like a realistic or healthy reaction given the stimulus.
I've known many mothers who would have dealt with the attendant and restored order very quickly without the need for hysterics.
I think the mom here is either unstable or was seeking after the god of "free stuff", milking the situation for sympathy and attention. Poor kid; sounds like a hard life ahead growing up with a mom like that!
But then, all I have to go on is the information provided in this article. There may be other factors involved.
