Local police saw five mysterious low-flying aircraft in the sky last Saturday and said Wednesday "we have no idea" what they were.

They have not classified the aircraft as UFOs, they said.

After receiving a phone call from a resident about 8 p.m. Saturday, police said they sent two officers to Route 34 and Toddy Hill Road, where the officers saw five aircraft.

First Selectman Pat Llodra said Wednesday she had heard nothing about the incident. "They didn't let us know."

Linda Cole, who lives on Toddy Hill Lane, wished she had been part of the excitement.

"I'm really bummed I missed it," she said Wednesday.

Richard Hanna, a resident of Ashlar of Newtown, an assisted living facility, said perhaps people mistook the flashing lights on his building for aircraft.

"There's lots of flashing lights here," he said.

If people see strange objects flying through the sky, Llodra said, they should call the police.

"That's what I would do," she said.
