Three tornadoes touched down in south-central Nebraska Sunday afternoon but each spent mere minutes on the ground and caused minor damage, officials from the National Weather Service in Hastings reported Monday.

The twisters marked the first confirmed tornadoes after Thanksgiving in Nebraska since 1975.

No injuries were reported in any of the tornadoes.

The first spawned southwest of Upland in Franklin County just after 4 p.m., spent one minute on the ground and traveled just over a quarter mile with wind speeds reaching 70 mph, the Weather Service said in a report Monday.

Around 4:30 p.m., a tornado ripped through a row of pine trees near a home 5 miles northeast of Red Cloud, the National Weather Service in Hastings said.

The home did not sustain structural damage, but outbuildings were overturned. The tornado overturned two center-pivot irrigation systems on its route.

That tornado, classified as an EF-1, spent five minutes on the ground and traveled 2.4 miles with peak wind speeds hitting 95 mph.

Officials surveyed its damage on Monday morning.

The rare November storm system continued northeast and a third tornado touched down at 5 p.m. about six miles east of Lawrence in Nuckolls County.

Weather Service officials reported that tornado spent three minutes on the ground and traveled just over one and a half miles. Its winds speeds topped out at 75 mph.

The tornadoes are the latest on record in Nebraska since 1975, when tornadoes were reported between Chester and Gilead in Thayer County and near Steinauer in Pawnee County on Dec. 13.

Including these tornadoes, Nebraska has recorded just seven November tornadoes since 1950.

But Sunday's cell marked the second year in a row with a tornado in what's supposed to be fall.

A year ago, a tornado touched down on Nov. 16 near Beaver City in Furnas County. Other recent November tornadoes were reported near Weeping Water in Cass County on Nov. 17, 2003, and near Ayr in Adams County on Nov. 5, 2000.
