RT's Murad Gazdiev has been reporting on the ground in Latakia, covering the airbase from which Russia is launching airstrikes, to the towns and villages liberated by Syrian force with Russian air cover. His latest report features the other side of the equation: Syria's internally displaced people. See his report on the internal refugees being housed and cared for in Latakia province.

Now compare this little slice of reality with that presented by the executive director of Human Rights Watch, Kenneth Roth, on RT's In the Now.

Yep, you heard that right. Assad is deliberately targeting civilians in order to show them what will happen if they 'let' terrorists take over their villages and towns. This guy is delusional. For someone who claims to be apolitical, he sure seems just a tad over-invested in portraying Putin and Assad as puppy-killing baby-eaters. According to him, Assad is the worst violator of human rights alive today. No mention of the 1.5 million+ civilians killed by the U.S. in its farce of a 'war on terror'.

Missing from his analysis is any acknowledgment of the real context: that Syria is fighting a war against mostly foreign terrorists who are hell-bent on taking over the entire country and massacring anyone who disagrees with their barbaric vision for Syria. They're the ones deliberately targeting civilians. Yet you'd get the impression that things would be better off in Syria if Assad just gave up all attempts to protect what is left of Syrian culture, infrastructure, and sovereignty. Maybe that's what Roth wants?
