Perth residents have been hit by severe storms and wild weather late on Wednesday, as lightning cracked across the Perth sky.

The BoM received reports of electrical activity over Perth throughout Wednesday morning and early afternoon but duty forecaster James Ashley said that worse storm conditions would continue into the evening.

"There is lots of lightning in the metropolitan area - as people would have noticed," Mr Ashley said. "But there is also a storm south-west of Gingin that is moving south that is a bit of a concern.

"The storm that is over us at the moment isn't severe. But there is a chance the one coming could be." A severe weather warning was still in place at 5pm for the metroplitan area, highlighting damaging winds, possible flash flooding and hail.

A severe weather warning was still in place at 5pm for the metropolitan area, highlighting damaging winds, possible flash flooding and hail.

There is a possiblity of damage to homes and property and the warning applies to an area bounded by Gascoyne Junction to Mount Augustus to Beacon to Mandurah then along the west coast to Dongara and back to Gascoyne Junction.

It includes Dalwallinu but not Jurien Bay or Mandurah.

The warning came after Perth enjoyed a cooler Tuesday night than expected, with a trade-off of showers and storms into Wednesday and Thursday.

The minimum temperature overnight in Perth heading into Wednesday was originally forecast to be 23 degrees.

But although the mercury was still above 26 degrees at 11.30pm on Tuesday, it got as low as 19.6 degrees at 5am on Wednesday.

The Bureau of Meteorology has also revised the Wednesday maximum forecast down from 36 degrees to a slightly more pleasant 32 degrees.

"That [the downgrade] was mainly due to the extent of the cloud and rain around the place," Mr Ashley said.

"Twenty-six degrees [at 11.30pm] is warm but after that it did get all the way down to 19 degrees. The lowest ever minimum temperature in November is 25 degrees, so we were a long way off that."
