Knocked down: Footage shows the tusked hog charging through the streets and knocking a woman over before turning its attention to the cameraman
A TV cameraman in Japan has been left on crutches after being savagely attacked by a wild boar in the street.

The terrifying incident was filmed by bystanders, who kept a safe distance from the manic animal.

Footage shows the tusked hog charging through an urban area and knocking a woman over. It then turns its attention to the cameraman.

After the unidentified man is spiked several times in the shins, he falls down backwards and drops his camera equipment to the ground.

He then tries to kick the pig away with his feet but loses a shoe in the process.

Onlookers are heard screaming for help in the background.

The final scene show the disheveled cameraman back on two feet, with the wild boar continuing to nudge him from behind.

A Japanese television station reported on the incident yesterday.

The cameraman appeared in the news bulletin limping along on crutches, with one of his shins bandaged up.

Wild boar have become an increasing problem in Japan.

Quartz.com cites the decline of hunting as the main reason for the country's burgeoning pig and deer populations.

It notes that eight people in the Hyogo prefecture were injured by a rampaging wild boar in 2013 and herds now roam the streets of Kobe.

Along with posing a threat to public safety, the animals have also been known to cause traffic accidents and damage crops.
