A neighbor called 911 after seeing Machetto carrying what appeared to be a body into Schmitt's minivan, launching a search for the beloved resident at the Paradise Lakes Condominium Association nudist community.

When deputies arrived at Schmitt's home Monday morning, they reported finding a "large sum of blood inside the residence," according to Nocco.

A deputy located Machetto driving Schmitt's minivan nearby and carried out a traffic stop, leading them to recover the woman's body.

Machetto has a juvenile criminal history for domestic violence including a previous altercation with Schmitt, with whom he had been living for three to four weeks, according to Nocco.

Family friend Ron Hall told WTSP that Machetto hadn't always been trouble, but initially grew up respectful.

It was only until he was hit in the head with a brick, leading to his regular medication, that he became violent.

"The brain injury that he suffered when he was struck in the back of the head with a rock - that he almost died from - never allowed him to mature and I think that's got to do with it," said Hall.

He said the earlier domestic violence incident between Machetto and his grandmother was over him not taking his medication.
