Iran has reacted to a report by the United States about human rights, saying Washington is in no position to preach to others about human rights. According to Iran Review website, the Iranian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the US itself is known for numerous cases of human rights violations.

The statement denounced the "the extensive and systematic human rights violations" in the notorious Guantanamo prison in Cuba and the US-built Bagram prison in Afghanistan, blaming the US for allowing the perpetrators to walk free with impunity.

The Foreign Ministry also slammed the "arbitrary detention and torture of people in the network of US secret prisons, including in Europe."

Washington is also responsible for "murdering hundreds of innocent women and children" in assassination drone strikes while it backs the "inhumane measures by the Zionist regime against the Palestinian people," the statement said.

"Under these circumstances, the US is not in a position to preach to others about human rights," the statement read.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry has also expressed regret over recent remarks made by German Chancellor Angela Merkel regarding Tehran's nuclear energy program.

The ministry's spokeswoman, Marzieh Afkham, criticized Merkel's comments made during her meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu the day before.

Merkel said the current situation following the landmark nuclear deal between Tehran and the sextet of world powers was not ideal, but it was preferred over allowing Iran to continue to move ahead with its civilian nuclear program.

"We see the threat not just as a threat for...Israel but as a general threat for Europe as well," Merkel added.

"These false comments were made in a place where for years the most counts of human rights violations, threats, aggression and crimes have taken place against the original owners of Palestine and other regional nations on a repeated and daily basis," Afkham responded.

The Iranian official stressed that her country has not posed any military threat or initiated any war against any countries over the past centuries.
