Some residents of a Santaquin neighborhood have come down with a mysterious illness and they don't think they have just passed around the flu. The mother of a four-month-old tainted with E.coli believes there may be something wrong with the water.

Carolyn Thomas is obviously concerned. Her baby Kaycee is sick and they don't know why. Thomas asked, "How did my four-month-old get that much E. Coli in her system?"

All of Carolyn's children have been sick and tested positive for E. Coli. She thinks there is something in the water.

Thomas said, "Her formula is mixed with tap water and that's all I use for her. What else could it be for a four-month-old?

Carolyn went to her neighbors to see if anyone else was sick, and they were.

Tammy Martinez lives across the street from Carolyn. When ABC 4 asked her if there were sick kids at home she said, "The two boys have been complaining about it burning when they pee."

Her 7 and 11-year-old boys have had a rough summer break with stomach aches and other issues. Tammy thought it was just dehydration, but not anymore.

Tammy has the same concern. She said, "We started wondering if it was something in the water."

ABC 4 asked Santaquin City: could there be E. Coli in the city water?

Wade Vera, the city's Public Works Director, doesn't think so. Vera said, "We've never had an issue with any chlorophyll or E. Coli with our water."

The city believes there has to be something else making everyone sick.

Vera took ABC 4 to one of the city's water chlorination buildings. He explained, following state code, they randomly test their water each month.

Vera said, "None of the water ever sees daylight until it comes out of your tap."

That may rule out the water, but leaves behind a mystery. What is making people around 560 South in Santaquin so sick?

Carolyn said, "There has to be something because it's rare that that many people would have the same exact symptoms."

The city sent samples from three different homes to a hospital in Orem and are waiting for results. As soon as we hear word, ABC 4 News pass it along.
