They've been around for over 25 years - those mysterious "flying triangles". Where do they come from, and what do they want? Are they "theirs", or actually "ours". Part one, in a series, will examine the history of these fascinating, and mysterious objects.

The modern era of the UFO phenomenon is generally acknowledged to have occurred on June 24, 1947. That's when Idaho pilot, Kenneth Arnold, reported nine silvery, crescent-shaped objects skimming at high speed over the jagged peaks of the Cascade Range in Washington state. Earliest reports usually described saucer-shaped crafts, although both disc-shaped craft, and cylindrical UFO's are still around, the more recent variety are three-sided objects.

The first major wave of sightings occurred in the Hudson Valley areas of upstate New York, and Connecticut , in March, 1983. Witnesses reported seeing 'V-shaped' UFO's and often referred to them as "flying wings". Often times these objects are extremely large in size, some over three-hundred feet in length. They only appeared triangular when viewed from the ground. Seen in profile from the air, they were flat, some reports described them as being wedge-shaped, or shaped like a boomerang - while some mistakenly said they were circular.

The Belgian Outbreak - 1989-1990

The entire world took notice when the Flying Triangles appeared over Belgium in 1989 and 1990. Huge triangular-shaped crafts, some at an altitude of a mere 350 feet, were witnessed by countless numbers of law enforcement officials, and common citizens alike. Over the next few months the Belgian Air Force, using NATO F-16 jets, were scrambled several times. However, the strange objects were far too fast for even NATO's fastest aircraft. While the F-16's had a top speed of well over 1,250 miles per hour, witnesses reported the triangular objects making off at incredible speeds.

The Phoenix Lights - 1997

Evidence suggest March 13, 1997 as the onset of this extremely compelling account of various phenomenal lights, which moved over the state of Arizona. These lights, though referred to as the "Phoenix Lights", were actually witnessed in at least five other cities. Phoenix has the distinction as the first Arizona city to report the unknown light sources, which were initially spotted over Superstition Mountain, east of the city at about 7:30 p.m. The first reports indicated an object of six points of light, followed by a report of eight connected lights, with a separate ninth, which moved in unison with the light.

The formation was seen again over the Gila River just before 10:00 p.m. In a matter of minutes, the enormous, lighted structure had made its way over the southern part of the city of Phoenix. At this time, literally thousands of people witnessed the object, or objects. The first photographs (actual photograph illustrated above-left) and videos were taken during this time. The final sightings of the night were in Rainbow Valley.

They're still here!.........

2009 - Sightings of triangular-shaped UFO's continue to be reported from all across the United States. One of the first reports, in 2009, came out of White Oak, Pennsylvania, near Pittsburgh. A witness observed a triangular-shaped formation hovering motionless over a shopping center parking lot. The object was huge, and hovered closely to the ground. Suddenly, all of the edges lit up with a brilliant flash, before returning to the original light pattern. The object then appeared to simply vanish into thin air.

Another Pennsylvania sighting came from Breezewood, on March 4th. Other sightings have been received from: Cocoa, Florida; New Midlleton, Indiana; Carlsbad, California, and South Carolina. The most recent report, including a fascinating photograph was reported on April 25th in Las Vegas, Nevada, and covered here.

These mysterious triangles have been making their presence known for over 25 years, and don't appear to be ready to abandon their unknown quest anytime soon. Keep your eyes to the skies!
