Most interesting from today's files include a New Jersey man who nearly loaded his shotgun as he drove under a triangular-shaped UFO on April 17, a California witness with incredible detail to his description on April 21 of a V or boomerang-shaped object that caused the comment - "The more I stared at it, the more the shape became visible." - an Arizona witness alone on a rural stretch of highway April 20 who spots a triangle UFO and encounters a bright flash of light and possible car trouble, a New Jersey witness on April 19 who observed two lights that didn't seem to belong at the tree top level, a story out of Arizona on April 21 where a witness watched a "gyrating object with flashing lights" apparently shining a beam of light out to approaching aircraft, a teardrop-shaped object that moved over a New Mexico freeway on April 21 - and an April 21 report out of Texas from a retired air traffic controller who observed a stationary and vertical cylinder in the sky.
Please keep in mind that many UFO reports can be explained as something natural or manmade. If MUFON investigates and reports back on any of these cases, I will update this page. You can read my selected cases by type of UFO report at the UFO Traffic Report main page.
First up is the New Jersey case where a man at first sees a bright light, but as he approaches, the object is a triangle - and he's got the shotgun nearby. And now my favorite quote from a UFO witness this year - as stories of abduction and machinery being fooled with filled his head - "If that thing had any devious intentions involving me, they would have to work for it."
New Jersey, April 17, 2009 - I saw a bright light and triangular shaped object.This California witness from April 21 claims, as many others have recently, that the V-shaped craft was dark and reflecting light from the ground.
While going turkey hunting on 4/17 at about 5:25 am, while traveling west on rt. 40, I saw a bright light toward the Woodstown-Yorktown area. It was so low that I thought that I was looking at a plane in trouble so, I made a left off of rt. 40 to get a better look at it. At that time I noticed that the light wasn't moving. (I expected the light to move to the left or right as it might if a plane was in trouble and looking for a place to land). But, the light just stayed in one spot.
The light was about 1-1/2 miles away and it was a big-big bright light shining and I was getting closer and closer. I came to a stop sign and the light was shining into a field on my left and was connected to a large triangular object. But, as I drove under this object, it made no noise.
Something told me to stop and scrutinize this thing but, something else told me to keep going and don't mess with it. I just kept going while looking at it through my truck mirrors and noticed bright flashes. I thought that it might be strobes or electrical flashes. As I continued to look through my mirrors, it just disappeared. I didn't realize it at the time but, it had been hovering over power lines.
My feelings as I passed under this thing were mixed. I wouldn't call it fear but definitely apprehension. I have heard many stories of things happening to others who got too close or too involved with these things; things like abductions, machinery shutting down. I kept looking through my rear view mirror to see if these lights (this thing) was behind me. I was getting ready to load my shotgun and use it (for whatever that was worth) if that thing followed me. If that thing had any devious intentions involving me, they would have to work for it.

I live within a half a mile of a small but busy airport and when I stepped out to have a smoke out of the corner of my eye I saw a shape just gliding across the night sky.
I'm used to seeing small aircraft and almost don't notice them any more but this caught my eye because it was large and airborne but had no lights at all. If it would have flashed even a single light, I would not have even looked at it twice.
The longer I stared at it the more the shape became visible. It was approximately 9 squares joined at the corners in a flying v or boomerang shape but it seemed to be only one object. I saw it for just over a minute. It made no sound.
The object was lit by reflecting the city lights below off of it's surface. Each of the squares were lit and shadowed like a pyramid. At arms length it would have taken my whole fist to cover the object and judging from the angle of the shadows on it's surface it must have been nearly a quarter mile away.
It was headed from west to east. Definitely larger than the local aircraft. It was much higher then they fly around here also. All I can offer is a quick drawing of what I saw.
My wife saw it also but not for nearly as long and we have different ideas about what it could have been. I have run it across everything I know of and I can't identify this. The object finally drifted out of sight over the building I live in.
Arkansas, April 20, 2009 - I noticed a "star in the sky that looked suspicious," I was taking another route to work that does not have much traffic in the early hours.This silent triangular-shape craft with three lights hovered over California skies while the witness observed a haze underneath.
I left my house in Ola, Arkansas, at approx. 520 am to pay a bill at Danville at the drop off box, internet bill. I took I believe it is Hwy. 27, you can look on the map, it may be Hwy. 28, but as I got on the long quiet Hwy. that seems to take forever to get to Dardanelle, long boring road, I noticed a star in the sky that had a tail attached, it seemed to be way out in the universe, a few minutes later, I saw the same star a lot closer up to the upper left of my drivers side window, and it appeared to be a lot closer,... as in hovering over the Nebo Mountain. I thought oh its the radio tower but still felt on edge and watched as it moved with in a 100 feet of me and I could see fluorescent lights 3 , on each side of a triangular figure. I kept thinking I am close to Nebo Mountain that has to be their lights, but the lights moved closer, I became really scared... rolled up my windows, ran off the road twice trying to get a good look and I saw the same rotating lights 3 on each side of a triangle. My car started a constant vibrating sound (sounded like a flat tire) I started to call 911 and my phone was dead, it was fully charged . Then all of a sudden there was a flash, like a light bulb had totally illuminated the road and my vehicle. And then the drive home was non-eventful, my car was driving sound and secure and as I drove further I was no where near Mt. Nebo. Although I watched my vehicles clock the entire time, there was no missing time in the event. What also I would like to add is that this is the second encounter of UFO activity I have encountered, and 3 other people in 3 different places can back me up, because in or around 2003 or sometime in that area, 3 different people have seen what I have seen in three different places at the same time. Also we have a nuclear plant in London Arkansas, it is not far from us, we are in the evacuation route area if this helps any. Also when I got to work I checked my tires and all were fully inflated, no signs of a flat. My phone did not work the rest of the day, I had to fully recharge when I got home, I didn't think it was gonna work for a while, took a lot of charging.
California, April 22, 2009 - Silent, fast, very big!!!! WOW.We sometimes get reports of military jets chasing the UFOs, while we assume the UFOs get away at least most of the time - this case involves a UFO apparently shining a beam of light toward approaching aircraft over Arizona.
Went outside to have a smoke..... about half way through while facing north I looked straight up and there it was!! Three lights in a fixed triangle shape was directly over head!!! The lights were huge, much larger than an airplane and they were not blinking. There was a strange wavey kind of haze under the hole triangle...like heat rising from the pavement. It was moving north and faster than any plane I've ever seen...it was not a plane!!!!! Planes are not this large, this fast, and silent. Or cover that much distance in such a short time. WOW was my reaction as my mouth dropped open...this really is real...
It flew out of sight heading north. As I finished my smoke wondering if I should share my sighting.... I was overcome with a feeling of calm...I saw what I saw and will no longer wonder "if". Only wish I had caught it on tape.
Arizona, April 21, 2009 - A gyrating object in the sky with flashing lights, caught our attention for 1hr 20min.A witness in New Mexico watched a teardrop-shaped UFO flying over a freeway. We hope there were more witnesses.
I went out on the patio to sit and enjoy the cool night air. I noticed a bright light in the sky south east from where I was. It was spinning and flashing blue, white and orange red lights. Also moved in all directions, but seemed to maintain a course at the same elevation from ENE to WSW. Over the course of time watching, I noticed that when a plane came by it reacted to it and a beam of light shone from the object to the plane. Perplexed and mystified I yelled for my Mom to come look and she could instantly notice the object in the sky. She was just as dumbfounded as I was. We stared at it till it disappeared. We discussed it during the time we were watching it and decided that it couldn't be a plane, helicopter or any heavenly body. Over all the object seemed to move slow, but in reality it traveled half the distance of the sky in an hour & 20 min. the strangest thing about the object was the fact that it made so many erratic movements. From up and down to side to side, sometimes slow and sometimes quick. My Mom and I were both amazed and felt somewhat euphoric. Like we were seeing something that you only read about or see on TV, it was right in front of us for an hour and twenty minutes.
New Mexico, April 21, 2009 - Teardrop UFO flew right over the freeway.A hovering cylinder was spotted over Texas in this case where the witness is a retired air traffic controller.
I was driving home from a local television station after dropping off a friend at the university (UNM) campus on Central Avenue. On the freeway to go home, I had just gotten on I-25 from the frontage road and was somewhere around the exit for Montgomery road.
As I was driving I happened to look up through the windshield at what I thought was a reflection in the glass from behind. However, when I looked up the light was coming from an intensely bright object in the sky, maybe (I'm estimating here) about 45 degrees up from the horizon of my car hood.
The object was shaped like a tear-drop on it's side. I almost thought it was a comet at first, but then I realized it was completely solid looking. It looked like it had a tail except the "tail" was as solid as the rest of the object and very distinct. There was none of the hazy quality you usually see with a comet's tail, plus it was clearly all one piece, with no detached parts. Also, it was really low in the sky so I could see it very clearly. I'm thinking a comet that close to the city would be pretty much impossible. The object was about the same altitude as planes are when they are coming in to land at the airport nearby.
There was a red "aura" for lack of a better word springing to mind, out in front of it...but only around the curve where the "front" of the object was based on the direction it was traveling (west to east across the sky).
Texas, April 21, 2009 - Stationary vertical cylinder with cone-shaped ends, extremely!!! bright white/silver/yellow approx 1500 - 8000 ft AGL.In other news, the following six cases were interesting this week.
Driving north on Hwy 16 ten miles south of Fredericksburg, TX. Westbound enroute aircraft at cruising altitude with con-trail caught my eye at 12 o'clock high. Extremely bright object approx same azimuth as aircraft appeared at 10 o'clock. I thought sunlight reflection from another aircraft. Being a retired Air Traffic Controller, I was watching for "separation" however determined it's altitude to be much lower than the enroute aircraft. It also became apparent the object was not moving and it was much too bright to be an aircraft. I watched as much as I could, as I was driving 70+, and the object remained stationary. I could begin to make out it's shape and detail as it became brighter - vertical cylinder with cone-shaped ends. The ends may have consisted of more than just the cones - as if the frame (?) of the cylinder continued to extend to a similar length as the end-cones. The color was first an extremely shiny silver then became increasingly brighter white and somewhat yellowish until I could no longer make out the shape of the object. It was as bright as the sun. So bright I could not look at it any longer. Then it was gone. Whole event lasted approx three minutes. I observed it for a total of 20 seconds while driving.
Estimated altitude - 1500 to 8000 AGL
Estimated distance - 3 to 10 miles
Estimated size to be that of a G4 to F-28 at 3 to 5 miles distance - length / wingspan (vertical). Perhaps 50 feet longer.
Although the direction of this object was towards the town of Fredericksburg and the Fredericksburg airport, I passed the airport within minutes and was watching the entire time for local air traffic but did not observe any. No aircraft moving on ground and none in the air. Being a retired Air Traffic Controller, and having worked at some of the busiest airports in the country, my eyes are trained to spot hard-to-see aircraft and I have seen aircraft and weather balloons in every imaginable flying configuration. I can assure you this object was neither and it was also too bright - as bright as the sun before it disappeared.
I wasn't going to report this until I saw another event reported in San Antonio the day before. Thought you might want to know. Thanks.
Florida, April 21, 2009 - Strange red light.
Around 10.30 pm. I went out to smoke and I saw a strange red light coming from north east going south west passing over south Fort Lauderdale and north Hollywood. It was only a big and strong red light no flashing but more like fading in and out (not like a regular red strobe on a plane) but slowly fading in and out and I did not heard any noise. There was no green and with strobe. altitude about 3000-5000 feet. Speed about 250 miles per hours. I lost the view blocking by some trees all the sighting stand for about 30 seconds.
Georgia, April 21, 2009 - Plane following a red light.
I was walking my dog just after 10 pm outside my apartment complex. It was dark outside and a clear night. I heard a low-flying plane which got my attention, especially since it was very loud and sounded like 2 low-flying planes. I saw the plane outlined by it's lights as it passed almost directy overhead. It wasn't until it was starting to go pass me that I noticed there was a red light some distance ahead of the plane, maybe 2 or 3 plane lengths, moving at the same speed and trajectory of the plane behind it. As the they got close to a tree line, the red light disappeared, although it may have still been there but beyond my sight. The plane and the red light seemed to be locked in place, so it might have been a light on a very long extension from the plane nose, or maybe the plane was following a second plane with only a red light (I did seem to hear two planes). I couldn't tell what type of plane it was, it was a large plane, not a personal aircraft, but it was not long enough to be a passenger jet and didn't look like a fighter jet of any sort, it was more short and squat but large. I got the impression of the plane chasing or just following the red light.
New Jersey, April 19, 2009 - I saw two extremely brilliant round sphere-like lights above the tree-line.
While traveling home from Atlantic City to Port Jervis on the clear night/morning of 4-19-09 northbound on Rte 23 I was at the intersection of Rte 23 & the entrance to High Point State Park at about 3:30 AM when I saw two extremely brilliant white round lights/strobelike over the western tree line. They appeared to be about 1-2 feet in diameter and over the trees about the same height again as the trees. I was frightened and stomped down on the gas pedal to get the hell away from whatever I was looking at. When I looked up again a few seconds later I saw only one light, but it was closer and larger. I was really moving and maneuvering down the hill to get away and when I looked up and back a third time a few seconds later it was gone. I don't know what it was that I saw, but I am hoping that someone else saw it too.
Colorado, April 22, 2009 - Very bright light , moving slow, straight over-head, no sound !!!!!!!!
I went outside to water the grass and looked up at the stars. While watering the grass I looked up toward the south west and noticed what appeared to be a very bright star that was moving toward my direction! I watched this bright light as it slowly moved directly over my house. I was surprised at the fact that I did not hear any sounds and that there was no flashing lights.This was a very bright white light. I stood and watch this light slowly go over head and move slowly to the north east until it disappeared. This took about 5 or 6 minutes to take place. The object was moving in a straight line for the entire time I was watching.
Kentucky, April 23, 2009 - Bright strobe light hovering over highway 65 that changed colors.
This is actually the second time I have seen this same object. The first time I saw it was at around 12:20am on the 19th and the second time just now was at 12:45am in the same location of the sky.
I first noticed the object when I was looking out of the front double windows of my apartment which has a clear view of the sky above the highway. I was making coffee at the time and just looking outside while waiting. I noticed this bright strobing light hovering in the sky in the general area of the highway and, as a curious person, stood and watched for a bit. At first the object didn't move, but then it began to move north to south back and forth a couple of times, pausing to hover ever so often, before it disappeared out of my view.
My very first thought when I saw this was helicopter, but I've never seen a helicopter that changes colors. When I first noticed the object it was bright orange. The second color it changed to was a red. The third color it became was green. And the final color was a bright white. The object also appeared to be flashing very quickly like a strobe light. At first I thought this could be rotor blades of the craft passing in front of the light making it appear to flash, but after it changed color several times I discounted this theory.
Hovering above the highway here seems a little odd to me at 12:20am to 1am. Even when there has been a bad car accident(which there hasn't) it seldomly happens. Fort Knox is only 11 miles from my location, but they do not conduct flight training there.
I can't say if this has been happening more often than the two times that I happen to notice it.
Arizona, April 21, 2009 - 4-6 spheres in formation strobing with 1 sphere like signals.
4-21-09 north west of Hereford, Arizona, Cochise county 9:11 p.m.
I went outside to smoke, looked east, observed 4 to 6 objects appearing to be sphere shaped. The objects were very bright-strobe light bright. Most of the objects were in line about 2-300 meters apart. One object was higher and not in formation but all seemed to be signaling each other, moving and strobing from the east to the south-east. There were two other eye witnesses besides me.
5 of the 5 objects appeared to be heading east and north of Naco, Arizona while the 6th object that was higher and not in formation with the others disappeared. After about 12-15 minutes the objects in formation were lost to sight.
All objects sighted were too distant to detect any noise. My 1st guess was that the objects were remotely operated drones, as this location is a common route for illegal immigrants. Location of sighting is approx. 4-7 miles from Fort Huachuca, a U.S. Army base. There is also an 'eye in the sky' white blimp probably used by the army base for surveillance purposes, but the 'eye' was much further west and about 5000 meters in the air and stationary.
I was sober and neutral about what they are or aren't. Photographic proof is best but neither the two witnesses or myself had cameras or binoculars.
