Shropshire residents have been stunned by the sight of more strange lights in the skies this month.

One woman spotted what she called a "huge ball of white light" heading towards the ground in Broseley Wood yesterday at about 11pm.

And Louise Butcher saw a light about the size of "a cluster of stars" moving across the sky over Church Stretton at the beginning of April.

She said: "I shouted for my son and we both looked up in amazement as it slowly got bigger.

"It seemed to stop, then glow red and after a few seconds it turned green then orange as it just shot into the sky and disappeared."

The reports come as Shrewsbury man Darren Perks appeared on a major current affairs programme in Australia over a sighting of a mysterious black triangle which he saw in the county skies 16 years ago.

Mr Perks, from Belle Vue, relived the sighting, which he witnessed as a teenager in Shrewsbury, for the Sunday Night show which aired on Australia's Channel 7 yesterday.

Mr Perks, 31, was asked to be on the programme by Nick Pope, a UFO desk officer for the Ministry of Defence from 1991 to 1994. He has been looking into sightings of the triangle in the county on March 30, 1993.

Mr Perks said that at about 11pm on the night he had been returning to the Harry Hotspur pub, which his parents owned at the time.

He said: "As I got outside the pub on Harlescott Lane I saw this big black structure which blocked out the stars on a clear night. It was a triangle moving really slowly from the south."
