Triangular-shaped UFOs were reported by witnesses in five recent cases in five states over three days, according to data collected by the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON). Four of those cases occurred on April 16, 2009.

Please keep in mind that many UFO reports can be explained as something natural or manmade. If MUFON investigates and there is a follow-up report, I will update this page. The following are unedited witness reports from the MUFON database.

You can read more about this specific shape of UFOs in my UFO Traffic Report: triangular-shaped. Or review different types of reports at the UFO Traffic Report main page. Keep watching the skies - and let's keep it real.

A witness in Maine observed the object through a sky light in this first case from April 16.

Maine, April 16 - Fly-by of triangle-shaped aircraft.

I don't believe this to be extraterrestrial in nature (however that would be awesome if it was) however, myself and 3 others were outside smoking and noticed a burning object heading west. It appeared to be a fireball with an 'arm' waving around it. It was moving slowly across the sky at about 500 feet. It stopped at one point and seemed to spin around several times and then moved in a northerly direction. After awhile something started falling off of it, like pieces of it were burning and dropping off. It eventually, slowly however, moved to the north and disappeared behind a cloud. Our guesses were a hot air balloon (but why would it be out this late at night), a blimp, weather balloon, etc., but it seemed to be too low to the ground and again, if it was on fire, why are there no other reports of it at this point? I hope someone can get to the bottom of this. We contacted 911 believing that there was an aircraft of sorts in trouble but it was gone by the time they arrived and they left without incident. I can't find anything on local papers or news websites that are updated frequently. Has anyone else reported anything? Was there some sort of an accident or did we in fact maybe witness something 'otherworldly'?

In California, a witness observed a "huge" triangular-shaped craft over the city of Los Angeles.

California, April 16 - Huge triangle passing silently over east Los Angeles.

On April 16, 2009 I was outside my house with my wife feeding my dog. I was looking up at the sky to see if the moon was out and I saw a HUGE triangle shaped object with dim (foggy) lights along the edges passing overhead. I told my wife to look, and she asked me what it was. I told her I had no idea, but that it was HUGE. Living in Los Angeles I see passenger airliners overhead all the time, so I have a pretty good idea of perspective on their size. This object was flying at a higher altitude than they do, and it was 5 to 6 times their size! It was traveling west slowly, and we could not hear any noise coming from it. I have seen many things in my life, and I am NOT an alarmist or a "wishful thinker". I know that what we saw was real, and not something I have EVER seen before. We went inside after it passed by and checked the local news. Nothing. I then went online, and again, nothing. I would VERY much like to know if anyone else saw this object.

In this Colorado case, seven lights were observed that formed a triangle.

Colorado, April 16 - 7 circle shapes in the pattern of two sides of a triangle. Moving in the direction following the point. Looked fuzzy or see through. No sound. Maybe just reflected light from it.

My fiance and I were sitting on my back deck looking at the stars and she said, "what is that a bird?" I had seen something moving in the sky but did not pay attention until she mentioned it. Immediately we could tell it was not a bird. The sky was clear but this thing seemed fuzzy or hazy, maybe see through. It moved liked it was gliding or being "pulled" along, not being propelled or pushed through the air. It seemed to be floating and moved some side to side as it kept moving along. It flew across the sky and then over the house where we could no longer see it. We both knew that it was a UFO. It was like nothing we had ever seen, even very hard to describe. No way a camera would have captured, it was difficult to acquire by the naked eye. There were seven circles or spheres in the formation of two sides of a triangle. One at the point and three on each side. You could see them but they didn't seem to be lit, more like dimly glowing or just reflecting light from the city. It looked like there was a shadow filling in the rest of the triangle. Is a good word for it "cloaked"?

It was eerily quiet. It seemed that it was more quiet when it went by.

Looking back the experience was surreal, it was nothing like we had ever seen, we are still trying to process it. Would love to get another look some time.

Very dim lights formed this triangle UFO over Ohio skies, moving west to east toward Pittsburgh skies, in what the witness described as "almost invisible" - a theme that seems to be recurring more and more in UFO reports.

Ohio, April 16 - Very dim, silent triangle flew over my house.

I went outside to have a smoke and was checking out the stars (first clear, warm night in a while).I was sitting on my steps facing south looking at Saturn which was at about 70 degrees off the horizon when I noticed very dim almost foggy lights in a triangle formation traveling west to east. It was completely silent and moving very fast, but much lower, faster and larger than the usual air traffic coming to and from Pittsburgh. This thing had no strobes or FAA lights just three VERY faint white lights at each corner (about 90% sure it was one object) I would have never noticed this object if I had not been looking in that general direction! It was not a satellite, I see them often. I can't stress enough; it was like it was "almost" invisible!

And finally, in Florida, on April 18, 2009, this report over Gulfport describes a triangular shape of lights with solid red lights at the corners and a white blinking light.

Florida, April 18 - Over flight by unknown triangle craft or formation

At approximately 8:50 last evening (4-17-09) I was leaving a friend's house in Gulfport, Florida and noticed what I thought to be a low flying aircraft coming almost directly over my vehicle. I could see clearly a triangle shape of lights with distinct solid red lights at the three corners and white blinking lights at the corners also. Following this closely were what appeared to be three other sets of lights that didn't seem to be in the triangle shape.

The objects were moving from the SW to the NE at a slow speed and probably below 5000 ft. altitude although it was hard to judge, but not very high. I have seen many aircraft at night and live in the landing pattern of MacDill AFB, so am very used to numerous aircraft types, civilian and military. I am 58 and this was the first time I have seen something like this.

I am not certain if I was seeing six distinct craft, or whether the triangle was one large one. There was no sound that I detected, as should be the case at that altitude by normal aircraft of any type. I could not detect a solid shape to the triangle, but it was quite dark at the time and no moon. I was looking out my driver side window and had stopped in the road to look at the lights. The total time it was observed by me was approximately 30 seconds.

I've never seen a military formation with this much distance between them or with the strange lighting. As it was headed over downtown St. Petersburg, it must have been viewed by many people.
