Joyce Bernann McKinney (left) is the author of her own misfortune. And what a strange misfortune it is. We first told you about her last week when she made world headlines by having her dog cloned in South Korea.

Her picture was splashed across media around the planet, as she hugged the latest incarnation of her beloved pooch.

But her decision to make such a spectacle of herself may yet come back to haunt her. It first surfaced that she was the same woman accused of handcuffing a Mormon missionary to a bed and forcing him to become her 'sex slave.' She jumped bail in England on that crime and never stood trial.

Now another local authority has recognized her picture. Officials in Carter County, Tennessee allege McKinney is the same woman charged with criminal conspiracy to commit aggravated burglary and contributing to the delinquency of a minor in their town in 2004.

And this crime was equally bizarre. Prosecutors claim McKinney convinced a 15-year-old boy to break into a home to steal some quick cash. What do they think she needed the money for? They allege she wanted to buy a false leg - for one of her beloved horses.

The accused in that case skipped her trial, too, and disappeared. And while local authorities are closely examining the pictures of the now infamous woman, they're pretty sure she's the one that got away. They're pondering whether to pursue the strange case again.

"It'll depend on where she is now, how important the case is, how much it would cost the taxpayers and whether witnesses are still around," admits assistant district attorney Melanie Widener.

Those in charge are amazed by the woman's apparent brazen behaviour. "She is bold to put herself on worldwide television," agrees prosecutor David Crockett said. "She must know she's a fugitive in at least one state."

McKinney has so far declined comment on the allegations and hasn't admitted whether she's the person officials are looking for.

But to further confuse things, after making such a splash getting her late dog cloned into five different puppies, all the publicity has now forced McKinney to flee Seoul without them. It's not clear what will happen to the animals now.
