Assuming any exist, I wonder what the PTB's plan (beyond stirring the s** and allying with whoever wins-a/k/a, Marxian problem/solution/synthesis, etc.) - is from here.
It "seems"* like this poor guy (Stevens), rather than being the "player," he likely saw himself as, was, in the end, a "useful idiot." As the whirlpool of destruction draws closer, what good detritus - or at least less evill detritus - exists therein is the first to go.
