Montreal police are examining an apparent human head found Sunday in a pond to determine whether it belongs to a Chinese student allegedly slain and dismembered by a porn actor who fled to Germany, according to news reports.

Test results are expected in about a week to determine whether the remains are the head of Jun Lin, 33, police told The Gazette.

"It's too early to confirm if this finding has anything to do with the homicide," said police Constable Anie Lemieux. "We're waiting on lab results to determine whether what we found are human remains."

Investigators working on the murder of the Concordia University student received a tip and were led to a pond in Montreal's Angrignon Park. The Globe and Mail notes that the 110-acre park is on the western terminus of the Montreal subway's green line, which runs through a neighborhood where Lin and his alleged killer lived.

Lin's torso was found in the trash in late May, and his hands and feet were mailed to Canada's two major political parties in Ottawa and to two schools in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Luka Rocco Magnotta, 29, is charged with first-degree murder. He fled Canada on May 26, was arrested June 4 in an Internet cafe in Berlin and was extradited to Canada on June 18.

Lin's family came from China to Montreal for a memorial service last week.
