Lightning and hail were reported in several parts of Anderson, Oconee and Pickens counties on Thursday and forecasters expect a few scattered storms today.

Hail as big as golf balls was reported in the Townville area, along with smaller hail in Powdersville and Williamston, among other parts of the three counties.

"There's been some reports of Ping-Pong ball-sized hail and half-dollar-sized hail across the area," said National Weather Service meteorologist Doug Outlaw, based at the Greenville-Spartanburg airport.

He said the storms peaked Thursday night but some smaller showers and storms may rear up early Friday afternoon as a storm system moves in from Tennessee to Oconee and Anderson counties.

Beyond the afternoon there is going to be a drying trend going into the weekend, Outlaw said.

The outlook for rain picks back up Sunday with a slight chance for afternoon thunderstorms.

The weekend may be muggy with temperatures expected to hit highs of about 83 for Friday and Saturday and 81 on Sunday.

Monday will bring some cooler weather with a high of 75, Outlaw said.
