The first amendment:
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances".
Keyword here, as it pertains to OWS is "peaceably" from what I see in this video the protestors that are interacting with the police, are anything but peaceful. Yeah I know, the cops are instigating 99% of it. Yet when a peace officer starts to question or detain you, regardless, you should either stop what you're doing and say nothing or reply in a firm, yet courteous manner and do as they ask.
The incessant screaming and yelling doesn't do any good, you go to jail and your voice and message is silenced.
Of course, with any protest, there is bound to be baiting on both sides, from the cops who would like to break out the riot gear, and crack some heads, and the protestors who are either ego driven or agent provocateurs.
I won't even get into the most important part of the first amendment "to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." as I see that OWS is well past this point, having grown stagnant by it's lack of organization. It's also quite obvious that the promoters of this protest are actually the very same folks who this protest is against, after all it's political season.
There won't be any change in the western political/financial landscape until a substantial number of people, like the number of protestors and their supporters, transfer all funds from major banks to local credit unions and banks, liquidate their stock portfolio and re-invest in small, local businesses, quit their corporate jobs and employ, feed and house themselves.
"Cut off the head of the snake and the body will die".
In other words, drop out of the system, buy local and reduce your debt.
But don't expect that to come easy, as this will require giving up the so-called American dream. As someone once said “They call it the American Dream because you have to be asleep to believe it.”
