The Transportation Security Administration announced that the UPS cargo planes that landed at the Philadelphia International and Newark Liberty airports have been cleared after extensive security sweeps by law enforcement.
The planes, two of which landed in Philly and one of which landed in Newark, were isolated and searched by Federal agents after they touched down. They contained “questionable shipments” from Yemin [sic], which is the home [sic] of the al-Qaida branch that claimed responsibility for an attempted bombing of a US-bound airliner on Christmas.
[...]
The UPS Company also went on lock down, not allowing some employees to come to work and sending others home early.
[...]
The searches were conducted after police found a suspicious package bound for the US at the East Midlands airport in England on Thursday night. Another suspicious US-bound package was found in Dubai.
President Barack Obama confirmed [sic] that the packages contained explosive materials. The shipments were addressed to Jewish synagogues in Chicago.

UPS has been for years the most profitable international cargo transporter. How come it wasn't DHL or FedEx its 2 major competitors ? wytebear I think 3 birds with one stone. Efficiency above all.
Cargo Cult: Questions on the Latest Terrorist Threat
First we were told that the recently intercepted package bombs sent, we are told, from Yemen, were targeted at synagogues in Chicago. Now we are being told that they were intended to blow up the cargo planes themselves. We are also told that the bombs' design shows the mark of a "highly sophisticated" operation by extremist Islamists, most likely al Qaeda. All of which prompts one question. If you were indeed a "highly sophisticated" Islamist extremist operation wishing to blow up cargo planes bound for the United States with package bombs, would you really a) mail those bombs from Yemen, a country currently under intense counterterrorism scrunity by the United States, and b) address these packages, from Yemen, to Jewish institutions -- in Barack Obama's home city? Either a) or b) alone would be enough to set alarm bells clanging all through the thick mesh of security systems that now overlay modern life -Chris Floyd

Their blatantly obvious scare tactics have now become so transparent (at least to many perspicacious people) that I seriously question the intelligence of those people who continue to buy the propaganda hook, line and sinker.
