Northern California quake was a mistake, USGS says
SAN FRANCISCO, April 30 (Reuters) - The U.S. Geological Survey accidentally reported an earthquake in Northern California because scientists did not review an automated alert, a geophysicist said on Friday.
The USGS system had reported a magnitude 5.0 quake near the Napa region on Friday afternoon, but geophysicist Paul Caruso later said there had been no quake. (Reporting by Peter Henderson; Editing by Doina Chiacu)
