Witness Statement: I was wondering if anyone has contacted you yet about a "possible" sighting of a UFO over Cambridge on Thursday the 19th Nov 2009? My wife is adamant that she saw a circle (sphere?) of white light moving south over Cambridge Airport at about 1700hrs. She said it moved quite slowly, with no sound whatsoever (hard to say though as she was close to a busy road) and had no other means of illumination (ie. Red/Green navigation lights or wingtip strobes) As she found it hard to guess it's size, she also couldn't accurately estimate height or velocity. She did believe it to be "incredibly high" though.

This year I had pointed out to her one evening that even at night, the iridium-coated solar panels of a satellite can catch the suns rays - giving it a "flaring up" effect. She said that this object was far brighter than that and that the brightness slowly dissipated as though the whole thing had gradually faded out. I have ruled out aircraft-mounted searchlights (white light) because these generally are not obvious when the aircraft is headed completely away from you as in this case. She also has seen chinese lanterns and is sure that this was something quite different. She is a very sensible woman and would not make something like this up - she was annoyed that I'd missed it and said she'd seen some "funny type of plane."

She said also that she could see no surrounding structure (ie. Fuselage/wings) illuminated by the light.

I'm an ex-military aircraft engineer who has had a lifetimes interest in all things Aeronautical, but I'm all out of ideas! I'm open to the suggestion that it could be a UFO but never having seen one myself, I really can't say. I do however think that it's very interesting, and wonder if anyone else in the Cambridge area saw anything similar?

Neither my wife or I are weirdo's, hoaxers or idiots I promise. Also we weren't drunk or on drugs!

I just want to add that neither my wife of I are saying categorically "We have sen the Martians!" or anything sensational, just that my wife saw something that neither of us can explain conventionally at all. I forgot to mention that the light was a solid white light that didn't flicker or blink (like an aircraft anti-collision beacon) it just dimmed right down, as my wife put it - "Like someone turning a dimmer switch slowly"

She also reckoned that the intensity was like the full moon but about 1/5th the size.
