V-shaped ufo

A Texas couple and their son were driving along Highway 285 heading home from Carlsbad Caverns when they noticed four lights about 50 feet off of the ground, according to witness testimony from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) database.

The object first appeared to be in a V-formation as it rose to about 1,000 feet.

As they watched, the object "flashed out" in front of them.

The following is the unedited case report filed with MUFON. Please keep in mind that many UFO cases can be explained as something natural or manmade. If Texas MUFON investigates and provides a follow-up report, I will update the story here.

Texas, March 20, 2009 - Triangle lights less than mile from road.

My wife, son and I were travelling home from Carlsbad Caverns on Friday, March 20, 2009 and around sunset my wife and son saw what appeared to be 4 lights hovering around 50 feet off of the ground, within a mile or so of the car (over some houses).

My wife initially thought they were towers, but they all moved simultaneously vertically. These lights were pulsating (not at the same time).

I immediately pulled to the shoulder of Hwy 285 and witnessed what was now 3 lights in a "V" formation (the 4th had disappeared). These lights rose vertically very slowly to a height of approximately 1000 feet in the air and after a brief pause began moving left (north) very slowly.

It was getting close to sunset and as the lights got further away the 3rd light appeared to be going slighly slower than the other two. When the lights were in front of a lighted area, I could see what appeared to be physical form behind the lights (for the first time).

Shortly thereafter a 4th light appeared in the middle of the other 3. The object(s) continued moving in the same direction then all 4 of them "flashed out" simultaneously.

My wife, son and I tracked these object(s) from directly beside our vehicle to approximately 10 or so miles away (to the horizon) behind our vehicle. The flight pattern paralleled Hwy 285.

I grew up on various Air Force bases and can recognize any military or commercial aircraft by sight and what we witnessed is nothing I have ever seen before. This/these object(s) made no noise whatsoever at any point and were close enough at the point that the attached photo was taken that I would have been able to hear engine noise if there were any.

Other than the point in which the 3rd (rearward) object appeared to slow somewhat, the 3 objects (and subsequently all 4) moved in total conjunction with each other.

We attempted to film this/these object(s) but the battery in our camera died in the middle of the filming, so the footage was unfortunately lost. The attached photo was taken with a 14 megapixel camera and has not been modified in any way other than being copied off of the camera and onto a PC. No editing software of any kind has been used. The lights in the picture are slightly brighter than they were in real-life, as the camera appears to have slightly overexposed the picture. The slight blurriness of the ground was due to holding focus on the objects while they were moving to the left (slowly). The lights below (at ground level) are houses approximately 1/2 mile from the road.

Texas, March 20 - Circle of purple lights with blue lights underneath.

Myself and my friend were driving down South Mopac from 1826 when my friend pointed out the object as he was driving. I saw a circle of purple lights hovering, bobbing, and doing a sort of spin to our left, flying away from us.

I did not want to stop and investigate, being in a moderately secluded area; roughly two minutes later, we turned around to investigate further, me picking up my courage, and there was no trace of it anywhere in the sky.

Its physical features were a circular, possibly disc-like, with a ring of purple lights around it; as it bobbed, I saw its underside, with four very bright blue lights underneath it.

We did not get any pictures, as I was initially too shocked to want to stop, and I assumed we only had our cell phones.

I have included a very rough drawing of it; please excuse it if it isn't any help; I am not artistically gifted in any definition of the term.
There were a dozen reports of UFOs on March 20, 2009 - here is another from Arizona.

Arizona, March 20 - Thought it was a large shooting star but soon determined it was very different.

On Friday March 20, 2009 shortly before eight pm I went outside to look at the sky. To my surprise I thought I saw a large white shooting star descending to earth.

Lost sight of it behind a building. Almost instantly I saw it or something very similar shooting up from the same area I watched the object disappear. This object was white and arching up toward the south. As it gained altitude it seemed to have smaller shooting stars coming from the original object. It continued up until it disappeared. As soon as it disappeared another or the same object appeared traveling parallel to the ground producing smaller versions of itself until they too disappeared. This continued for approximately fifteen minutes and culminated in a white ball turning red with a green fuzzy area around it. This too faded from view then I saw an orange glow that consumed approximately ten percent of the southern sky. During the entire event I never heard a sound. Nor do I recall seeing the laddder in both pictures.I was not the only witness as someone sent in a report that very night form Peoria AZ. I did not have the digital Rebel XSI 12 mega-pixel with a 100-300mm lens at maximum extension. I grabbed my camera to take the attached photos but did not have a tripod available which resulted in the blurry photos. Multiple objects appear in the photos due to the length of time the shutter had to remain open to gather enough light. I did get some video but for some reason I can not send the files or copy them to a DVD.
Here is a case from Texas that occurred on March 5, 2009, with some similarites - from the National UFO Reporting Center.

Shape: Formation
Duration: 34 sec

The light were forming a triangle, but soon enough paused with there lights turned off in the midnight.

Well I was in the truck with my parents one late night and my step dad saw bright lights in the sky and they were turning on and off all in a row. Me and my mother were in shock. The object wasn't moving, and was orange, it was also forming a triangle shape almost then the lights turned off.

I can not explain the size in detail. The location was in Goldthwaite, Tx. We seemed to be in the middle of no where, with no sign of town lights. We were the only ones on the road, and we were headed towards Lubbock.

Flashing object moving in a pattern.

We were driving home when we saw a giant flash in the sky. We noticed that it started to flash multiple times. The craft started to move and flash at the same time. We noticed that it started to follow our car and flash more as we got closer.
