Russia knew about Georgia's plans for an attack on Abkhazia in April this year, Russia's representative to NATO Dmitriy Rogozin has announced on air to Ekho Moskvy radio. "It should have happened in early May, we even knew with which means Saakashvili intends to attack," he said. According to Rogozin, the Russian leadership leaked the information on purpose. "We warned the Americans, they worked with Saakashvili, said that it's not to his advantage," noted Russia's Permanent Representative to NATO Dmitriy Rogozin.

As regards the possible warning of Georgia's military attack on South Ossetia, Rogozin emphasized that "even on 7 August no-one knew exactly what would enter Saakashvili's mind late in the evening."
