Lapriss Gilbert in Los Angeles was removed from a federal building, where she had gone to pick up a Social Security card for her son on August 25, for wearing a T-shirt that read "lesbian.com." A guard working for Paragon Security, which contracts with the Department of Homeland Security, took it upon himself to judge her attire inappropriate. Gilbert got back into the building only after her mother contacted the LA Police Department. A spokesperson for Homeland Security apologized for the incident, but did not release the name of the guard or indicate what disciplinary action might be taken. Gilbert said, "As an African American and a lesbian, I haven't been through one day without facing some sort of discrimination."
