A New Westminster woman says she and other SkyTrain passengers got a nasty surprise on the commuter train last Friday.

Alex Marianopoulos was on a train heading east when it stopped at the 29th Avenue station in Vancouver.

Then something hit the window hard as the train left the station, Marianopoulos told CBC News on Tuesday.

"The next thing I heard was a big, loud crash and I turned right beside me and I turned and I looked and here was this white spot with spider web effect and the only thing I could think of was, somebody shot," she said. At the next stop, Skytrain security said four cars were hit in total, and all were evacuated and taken out of service.

When contacted by the CBC Tuesday morning, TransLink said they had no record of a problem.

But after persistent calls, a report surfaced later in the day showing that seven windows on five cars on two different trains had been damaged.

"We understand it was rocks," said spokesperson Drew Snider, adding police were called and a risk assessment of the entire system was underway.

But that assurance was little comfort to Marianopoulos.

"It looked like a bullet to me; indentation, a white pock mark in the glass. I've felt safer being on the New York subway in the early 70s," she said.
