Family members said Christian is expected to be in the hospital for a few weeks. They said Stephanie's recovery could be much longer.

They were injured Saturday when the single-engine Cessna they were passengers in struck a power line and crashed as it was taking off from the airport in St. Johns.

The pilot of the single-engine plane, 48-year-old Douglas Kinneard of Mesa, died.

The Nielsons were flying back to Mesa from Grants, New Mexico, where they were on a weekend trip to a ranch Christian's family owns in the area. The crash is under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration.
