A dachshund dog has become a local celebrity in China for his skills in pushing a wheelchair.

Two-year-old Guai Guai runs underneath the wheelchair pushing the foot rests with his front legs.

He is so small - and fast - that many passers-by assume the wheelchair is motorised, reports Dahe Network.

His owner, Ms Wang of Zhengzhou, says he learnt to push her father's wheelchair when he was a puppy and used to hide underneath it.

"When I pushed my father on a walk, Guai Guai would also be under the seat, two forelegs on the steps, walking with only the hind legs," she said.

"He couldn't keep up when he was young and always stumbled. But when we took him out, he would run back again under the seat."

Gradually Guai Guai learnt to push the wheelchair himself.

"My father is more than 50kg, and whenever the dog saw him sit on it, he would run under the seat, and push the chair," said Ms Wang.

"He has become accustomed to the sport, and if he doesn't get to push the chair at least once a day, he runs frantically around the house."
