Axis of Evil

As of May 1st, 2008, at least 4,065 members of the U.S. military have died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count. The figure includes eight military civilians. At least 3,312 died as a result of hostile action, according to the military's numbers.

The AP count is one more than the Defense Department's tally, last updated Thursday at 10 a.m. EDT.

The British military has reported 176 deaths; Italy, 33; Ukraine, 18; Poland, 21; Bulgaria, 13; Spain, 11; Denmark, seven; El Salvador, five; Slovakia, four; Latvia, three; Estonia, Netherlands, Thailand, Romania, two each; and Australia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, South Korea, one death each.

The latest deaths reported by the military:

A soldier was killed by an explosive Thursday in Baghdad.

The latest identifications reported by the military:

Marine Sgt. Merlin German, 22, Manhattan, N.Y.; died April 11 at Brooke Army Medical Center, San Antonio, Texas, from wounds suffered during combat in Anbar province on Feb. 22, 2005; assigned to the 5th Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.

Army Staff Sgt. Clay A. Craig, 22, Mesquite, Texas; died Tuesday in Baghdad of wounds from small-arms fire; assigned to the 1st Squadron, 75th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.

Army Staff Sgt. Bryan E. Bolander, 26, Bakersfield, Calif.; died Tuesday in Baghdad after his vehicle struck an explosive; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.

Comment: Even if this estimate is conservative... It must be remembered that each person died, because of LIES.
