A 7,000-year-old statue of a woman has been discovered by archaeologists in the Czech Republic.

A team of archaeologists working in the Czech Republic have uncovered a 7,000-year-old statue, dating back to an ancient prehistorical culture.

The half a metre high statue of a woman has been reported in the Czech press as an exceptional find and was created in a style known as Moravian Painted Ceramic.

According to the daily Mlada fronta Dnes (MfD), the experts from Brno's Masaryk University found the statue in Masovice, South Moravia.

Masaryk University expert, Vladimir Podborsky, said: "No statue of such dimensions and such type has been uncovered either in Europe or in Orient so far. It has a great scientific importance."

Originating from 4,800 - 4,700BC and decorated with yellow paint, the statue is made of ceramic and depicts a woman's hollow legs and haunch.
