chunks ice fall california
Colton resident Megan Clement was in her townhouse doing some cleaning when she heard the loud bangs. She thought a tree might have fallen on the home.

Then she went outside and found them: eight to 10 large chunks of ice.

They were everywhere — on the roof, covering the walkway and in the bushes.

The unusual incident occurred in the 1200 block of Mojave Drive about 10 a.m. Monday — when the sky was clear with no threat of hail or other strange weather.

Clement said she Googled the phenomenon and has some ideas what happened. Large chunks of ice known as megacryometeors can form under certain conditions, but it's not clear if that's what occurred.

Meanwhile, Clement is saving those strange ice chunks in her freezer.
