"We have about 50% of the world's wealth but only 6.3% of its population. This disparity is particularly great as between ourselves and the peoples of Asia. In this situation, we cannot fail to be the object of envy and resentment. Our real task in the coming period is to devise a pattern of relationships which will permit us to maintain this position of disparity without positive detriment to our national security. To do so, we will have to dispense with all sentimentality and day-dreaming; and our attention will have to be concentrated everywhere on our immediate national objectives. We need not deceive ourselves that we can afford today the luxury of altruism and world-benefaction."
~ US State Department, 1948

With things going pear-shaped for the NATO/Turkey plan for Syria because of Russian air strikes, Erdogan may be concerned that the little terrorist birdies he sent into Syria will be fleeing home in terror in ever greater numbers. These particular little birdies have a penchant for spreading chaos and violence.
Or...Russian airstrikes are allowing the Syrian Arab Army to make significant gains, pushing closer and closer to the Syrian border with Turkey. Of course, the Syrians are simply retaking their land from ISIS terrorists...but is that all? Erdogan wonders...
What about the Kurds? Under the 'fog of war', could the Kurds, in league with the Syrians and Russians be planning a little land grab operations?
Whatever the case, better get the tanks down to the border.
