A day after two youths were killed in lightning in Dhamnagar area of Bhadrak district, nature's fury claimed seven more lives today as seven people, including two brothers, were killed in lightning strike across Odisha.

While three persons were killed in Jajpur district, two lost their lives in Khurda and two siblings were killed in Baleswar. Five others were critically injured in lightning strikes across the state.

In Jajpur district, one person was killed at Nalipur under Balichandrapur police station limits, another died at Chitta Hata under Sadar Thana and a third person was killed at Aruha village under Dharmasala.

In Khurda district, one person each died of lightning strike in Gada Haladia and Muktapur.

The brothers killed in Baleswar, along with their friends, were playing cricket in a village playground at Maharajpur under Khantapada police limits in the district when lightning struck in the afternoon. While the two siblings were killed, four other children were also injured in the mishap.

All of them were rushed to the Khantapada hospital for treatment where the two siblings were declared dead on arrival. The four other critically injured were referred to the Baleswar district headquarters hospital.

In March this year, six children were killed in lightning while they were playing cricket in a field in Khurda district.
