Woman killed by pack of wild dogs on Rosebud Reservation, South Dakota

A woman in the Lower Swift Bear Community on the Rosebud Reservation has been killed after being attacked by a pack of wild dogs.

The Mellette County Sheriff responded just before 6:30 Saturday morning. He reports that when he arrived, multiple dogs were still on the scene surrounding 49-year-old Julia Charging Whirlwind. The sheriff shot and killed two of the dogs so emergency crews could reach her.

Charging Whirlwind was taken by ambulance to a Rosebud Hospital, where she later died.

The Mellette County Sheriff also said that there have been multiple reports of wild dog attacks in recent weeks.

packing dogs need to be killed. sorry. but once they learn to pack, they never forget it. and if they are not being fed, they will feed on you.

So, unless one chooses to 'feed' them, one should choose to kill them, right? Unless one thinks it best to imprison them indefinitely like we do with humans? The same lessons in regards to 'packing' seems to be in play with 'packing' humans as well as these 'packing dogs' and it seems that the authorities have been encouraging this tendency to 'pack'. Isn't that interesting? Is that a usual method to round up the herd? Maintenance of command and control functions over the herd.

Humans have a responsibility

to care for the animals they own; but, an animal's life should never take precedence over a human life. Packing dogs are a danger to humans and their domestic animals. I'm absolutely surprised that local communities aren't taking these packs into their own hands and hey, a .22 is a good start. These dogs serve absolutely no purpose, disrupt the food chain and attack humans and domestic farm animals/pets. Not a new problem, I remember an elderly woman many years ago killed by a pack of feral dogs on the reservation about 0.5 mile from our house. Same for coyotes that are coming into urban neighborhoods and feeding on domestic pets, shoot them. I find it somehow bizarre that urban police shoot people on a dime but they take into custody a proven inherently dangerous pitbull or other dog that has just ripped a kid's face off or killed its owner. There's nothing wrong with banning the breeding of dogs except to licensed breeders who should pay a license amount sufficient to discourage anyone except professional breeders from allowing their animals to breed. Mandatory spay neuter for all pets and a huge fine if your animal is intact and owner has no breeder license. Matter of fact, breeders should be made responsible for ensuring that the animals they sell have been spayed or neutered. Mandatory liability insurance for anyone owning an inherently dangerous breed. Heck, put those few laws on the books and enforce them and the states could suspend income tax for the rest of us Joe Citizens!
