Following strong hints by Obama in recent weeks, the White House said it intends to "ramp up US support to the moderate Syrian opposition".
Comment: So, having already trained and armed Syrian rebels like ISIS, who are wreaking havoc in Iraq,Obama wants to send more money and weapons to Syrian rebels, only this time he wants to send it to "moderate" rebels. Which people does this sort of nonsense fool?
It proposed the funding for "vetted elements of the Syrian armed opposition, to help defend the Syrian people, stabilise areas under opposition control, facilitate the provision of essential services, counter terrorist threats and promote conditions for a negotiated settlement".
Comment: And whats more he wants to do it to "defend the Syrian people". He clearly is ignoring the fact that the Syrian people overwhelmingly re-elected President Bashar in an election a few short weeks ago. The Syrian people need protecting from Obama's Syrian rebels, not from their democratically elected president.
The proposal was part of the $US65.8 billion overseas contingency operations request to Congress for fiscal year 2015, which begins on October 1.
"The administration will develop the details of this envisioned program in consultation with the Congress and our international partners," the White House said.
Washington has been studying options for providing additional assistance to rebel forces beyond the existing aid, which includes mainly "non-lethal" support.
Comment: When a leader refuses to bow to US dictates and toe the line, then the US sees regime change as the only option. Standard operating procedure is to label the leader a dictator, foment revolt and heavily fund the rebels. Only problem is that this is not working in Syria.
While US officials normally publicly refuse to comment on exactly what they are doing to train opposition groups, Obama's National Security Adviser Susan Rice acknowledged early this month that the Pentagon was aiding Syrian rebels with "lethal and non-lethal support".
About $US287 million in mainly non-lethal support has been cleared for the rebels since March 2011, and the CIA has participated in a secret military training program in neighbouring Jordan for the moderate rebels.
Comment: And according to Jordanian sources, ISIS were among the rebels trained and armed in Jordan bu the CIA.
The request comes at an extraordinarily sensitive time in the Middle East, with Sunni ISIL jihadists in Iraq, who are threatening to overtake Baghdad, joining forces with extremists in Syria.
Rights observers have said members of Al-Qaeda's franchise in Syria, Al-Nusra Front, pledged loyalty to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), giving it control over both sides of the frontier.
The $US500 million in aid is part of a proposed $US1.5 billion "regional stabilisation initiative" to bolster stability in Syrian neighbours Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey and Iraq, and to support communities hosting refugees.

Which means the US is up to it's eyeballs once again, or it once again make a huge blunder.
I prefer the former, which explains why Obama refused to aid when ISIS (ISIL) first started into Iraq.
And the recent event of both Iran and the US in there with "advisers" has them staring each other down.
You can just see the drone vs drone spying going on, with both side seeking to figure out what the other side is capable of.
But what comes around goes around, and this time I sense great disaster looming for the US, which sees only the opportunities, but none of the dangers lurking in the shadows. It's Kharma time.
