Daughter of Naoise O'Muiri claims she saw a ghost.

The Lord Mayor of Dublin has claimed the Mansion House is haunted. Fine Gael Councillor Naoise O'Muiri has told the Irish Sun that his daughter was once spooked by a ghost in the iconic building which dates back to 1705.

He says the 4-year-old experienced the encounter as she walked from her room through the sitting room and into her parent's room in the middle of the night.

She said she saw a girl with dark curly hair watching TV and the Mayor is adamant that it was a ghost.

Mayor O'Muiri said he knew the Dawson Street building had a reputation for strange happenings. "I was skeptical coming in (having heard the stories) but there is definitely stuff happening".

The Fine Gael councillor explained "Nobody has access to the living quarters at night time...It happened 12 weeks ago and we haven't brought it up again".

"It's like someone is watching you"

This is not the only room that sends shivers down the Mayor's spine. He said "One room upstairs is reputed to be haunted, someone is meant to have died there hundreds of years ago".

"It's hard to heat the room. If I walk out it's like someone is watching you" he added.

The current Lord Mayor is not the only person who suspects there is a supernatural presence in the landmark building.

Newstalk's Shona Murray has talked to the Lord Mayor, who took her thorough the various rooms and incidents.
