It does sounds a little unbelieveable. A bucket - come on!!! What the ?!?? I mean, what were they planning to DO with it? Bail themselves out? Do their washing whilst airborne? Use it for a sick bucket? Run a lottery from it? Do a whip round with it?
I bet they are glad that this "bucket" didn't do any real damage (especially to them?).
And... if it wasn't a bucket, then I'm not surprised that they chose this some-what inocuous and possibly non-existent object to explain a hole in a motor home. Usually if something fall out of or off a military plane, it's a little more serious that a "unsecured bucket" that no one has any legitimate use for.
Good find SOTT! I like the fact that it seems to be the BBC that is reporting something that happened in America. Isn't this strange?
