Since the 9/11 attacks, no book has provided a satisfactory answer as to WHY the attacks occurred and who was ultimately responsible for carrying them out - until now.
"As a secular society, we have no religion-based moral guideposts..."
Oh, really? First, I thought that was a joke, but you continued without the necessary punchline, something successful comedians never forget.
Then is listed the next aspect of control, our state educational facilities, which have taken over in our 'secular society' for the church, which only gets to 'play' with our minds one day a week. My, my, they must feel left out.
Don't you think there's a reason for that apparent lack of 'moral guideposts'? As in, they never gave anyone one, and most stupid sheep learn to follow their masters from whichever pulpit is chosen and 'do as they do', and thus all the problems we have today, same as we've always had. Nothing has changed, the school remains open, and yes, even on Sundays.... Saturdays... Fridays... take your pick, there are 'moral guideposts' all around, or should I say 'immoral guideposts'? As that is what the overwhelming majority of our 'teachers' have given us through the eons of 'civilization'. One after the other. One bad example after the next.

Random Thoughts at the Dawn of the Year 2012
February 13, 2012 Dave McGowan
"I thought I'd begin this rant by sharing some of my thoughts on the historical figure known as Jesus of Nazareth. I think we can all agree that, unlike some of the other subjects I have weighed in on in the past, this is one on which people do not tend to have strongly held points-of-view, so there is little chance that I will offend and alienate readers right off the bat.
"So let's jump right into it then with observation #1: When the likely outcome of an unwed pregnancy is death by stoning, people can be really creative liars.
"Nothing in the least bit controversial about that . right? Let's move on then to observation #2: It is fully understandable why the lie was told, and even why many people in that era might have believed it; what is more difficult to understand is why tens of millions of people around the world still believe it 2,000 years later.
(Snip)
"Observation #5: Jesus was very likely a controlled Roman asset. Just as, nearly two thousand years later, the obviously controlled asset known as Jesse Jackson replaced the slain Martin Luther King, and the equally controlled asset known as Louis Farrakhan replaced the eliminated Malcolm X, so it was that Jesus was maneuvered into position to replace the executed John the Baptist, who had, I'm guessing, become a bit of a problem for the Roman overseers.
"The message that the emergent messiah delivered to those living under the brutal hand of those Roman occupiers was, by any rational analysis, exactly the wrong one. It was a message brimming with advice about loving neighbors and turning cheeks … a message that constantly reinforced the notion that it was better to be poor and oppressed than wealthy and powerful, for the poor, you see, were going to spend all eternity in the glorious ‘Kingdom of Heaven,’ while the rich were going to burn in the fires of Hell (unless they were somehow able to steer their camels through the eye of a needle, or something like that)."

I'm not saying he's right, but I'm not claiming he's wrong, either. He does, however, make valid points that few would contest if he had been talking about any other person...

Whether one encounters people who are psychopaths in a clinical sense, we certainly encounter many who are somewhere along the line between being honest, caring, compassionate people of modest personal wants, .. or those who are deceitful, selfish, unconscionable, and greedy.
As a secular society, we have no religion-based moral guideposts, no educational system for addressing ethical behavior as that is left entirely to the "parents",... and besides, the teachers do not want to discourage "competitive behavior" of their students.
Without a broad awakening concerning the value of honorable behavior is building trust, in self-limiting consumption, and in promoting concern for others, there is not much reason for optimism regarding our societal descent. Perhaps the reason for the story of Jesus, born into a slavish world of hedonism for the "now", ( we only go around once so go for the gusto) ,cruelty, and mass poverty, was to show that life exists as an eternal reality, that we are to be held responsible for our actions as humans, rewarded or punished accordingly at a later time, and that love, charity, and vows of poverty are in fact the keys to heaven. There is great practical value in this belief.
