A Frenchwoman who received a telephone bill for an amount equivalent to nearly 6000 times the country's annual economic output has had the real amount she owed waived - after finally convincing the company they must have made a mistake.
Solenne San Jose, from Pessac in the Bordeaux region of southwestern France, could not believe her eyes when she opened the bill to discover she was being asked to pay €11,721,000,000,000,000 ($14,766,481,895,641,556.00) to close her account.
"There were so many zeroes I couldn't even work out how much it was," she said.
Ms San Jose's alarm mounted when operators at Bouygues Telecom told her they could not amend the computer-generated statement or stop the balance from being debited from her bank account.
Only after a series of frantic calls did the company finally admit the bill should have been for €117.21.
Bouygues Telecom said the mix-up had been due to a printing error and a subsequent misunderstanding between the client and staff at their call centre.

This lady had it easy. She was able to make a couple of calls and have her debt settled to a reasonable amount. We in America have it different. There is a constant debt hung over all of our heads (with the threat of our heads hanging for not paying it), called the national debt. How much is the national debt?
16 trill with the juice running? That's the stated amount. That can be upped or downed in an instant simply by broadcasting a different set of numbers. If the njewscasters say 100 trillion tomorrow, what are you going to do about it? Answer: pay.
What is your portion of the national debt? Is it 1/100 millionth of 16 trill? Really? Then why haven't you been sent a BILL, with a PAYMENT SCHEDULE, so you can pay it off. Think about all of your other debts. There is a contract signed (although fraudulent as it is with a fictional entity, but that is a conversation for another time), a payment schedule, terms of agreement, signatures showing agreement, and an amount due with usury interest. As much as those bank contracts are totally immoral, at least they put the terms in legalese for your lawyer to decide how much you owe and how long your jail sentence will be if you don't pay. The national debt is out there, forever, perpetual eternal, and never-ending.
Under the current extortion, if everyone else decided not to pay, regardless of punishment, yet you decided to keep putting your labor value in, you would owe 16 trillion dollars. And guess what? Even if somehow you worked yourself to death and did pay it off, there would be bankers making sure that there was a new debt established, since debt is what makes there world go around.
Debt is enslavement. Period. You may equate enslavement with black people on roots getting whipped for not saying their assigned name. There are degrees to everything. Slavery has a degree, and each and every one of us has been assigned a name, or model number to act under. How much do people worry about a credit score attached to their name? And yet look at the system that makes all of this necessary.
The greatest masters of usury, interest, and speculation of the planet's history have infected every level of the American government. They have set up a system with a security force to extract as much human labor value from the populace as possible. They will not stop until the host is dead.
