
"This was taken at around 5:40 am this morning. It started at the top right and then fell to the left. Maybe a meteor?"
They were contrails from missile tests at the White Sands, New Mexico Missile Complex, according to spokesman Drew Hamilton.
Although the complex is 330 miles away from the Phoenix metro area, many Valley viewers saw the contrails.
"Everything went exactly as planned. We've done this kind of thing before," Hamilton said.

Looking at the image there appears to be another line of faint smoke just above and left of the main image.. maybe part of the missile broke away (or, more likely, a chunk of space debris) from the rocket?
