Gannett - Those mysterious red lights appeared again Tuesday night over eastern Morris County, for the third time in about a month.

Residents from several towns reported seeing what appeared to be between 8 and 10 red lights floating in unison in the same direction as the wind, starting at about 8:45 p.m. By 9 p.m. the lights flickered and went out, several witnesses said.

Police in Morris Plains said they received many calls about the lights, and police in Morris Township, Hanover and Morristown each reported getting a few calls.

Similar sightings were reported by numerous people in the eastern part of the county on Jan. 7 and Jan. 30.

No one has determined the source of the lights, but a Michigan-based maker of Sky Lanterns said photographs taken in Morris County lead him to believe it could be his product, a contraption involving balloons and wax-infused cloth intended to be set aloft during celebrations.
