CNN 26 Jan 06 The White House expressed confidence that
Alito's supporters had the 60 votes needed to cut off a filibuster,
a maneuver allowed under Senate rules to block a vote by extending
debate indefinitely.
Comment: "Two Democrats
announced Thursday that they would vote for the 55-year-old Alito:
Sen. Robert Byrd of West Virginia and Sen. Tim Johnson of South
Dakota. Both represent states that Bush carried in the 2004
presidential election."
That means that you folks in WV and Mass need to get on the phone, fax, computer and tell these guys the facts of life. And even if you don't live there, you can write! |

January 27, 2006 Supporters of George W. Bush are
lambasting Sen. John Kerry for a threatened filibuster against U.S.
Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito. But 15 years ago, their
attitude was different as backers of George H.W. Bush wielded the
filibuster to block a probe into Republican secret dealings with
Iran that could have doomed the Bush Dynasty.

By Michael Foust Baptist Press WASHINGTON (BP)--Supreme Court nominee
Samuel Alito's confirmation seemed all but certain Jan. 26, as two
more Democrats announced their support for him, apparently giving
Republicans the 60 votes required to overcome a filibuster attempt
supported by Sen. John Kerry.
CNN reported that Kerry, D.-Mass., is urging his Democratic colleagues to filibuster Alito, whose nomination has energized conservatives but drawn the fury of liberal interest groups. Kerry is overseas in Switzerland attending the World Economic Forum. Sen. Edward Kennedy, D.-Mass., supports a filibuster, CNN said. But enough Democrats have announced their support for Alito -- or their opposition to a filibuster -- that Kerry's threat appears to be futile. Comment: In other words,
Bush's illegal spying has paid off. He now has enough goods on the
opposition to control the vote.

The New York Times
Opinion JANUARY 26, 2006 Senate Democrats, who presented a united
front against the nomination of Alito in the Judiciary Committee,
seem unwilling to risk the public criticism that might come with a
filibuster - particularly since there is very little chance it will
work. Alito's supporters will almost certainly be able to muster
the 60 senators necessary to put the nomination to a final
vote.
A filibuster is a radical tool. It's easy to see why Democrats are frightened of it. But from our perspective, there are some things far more frightening. One of them is Alito on the Supreme Court. Comment: They don't need
a spine, they need to deal with Bush's illegal spying. But, they
can't do that. Bush's illegal spying on American Citizens,
including congress, will soon be as legal as American Apple Pie,
thanks to Alito. Looks like the Neocons have checked
Congress...

We accomplished our overnight objective
from the last alert. Senators Kerry and Kennedy were inspired to
step up to the plate to lead a filibuster of the Alito nomination,
and we applaud them for their leadership. A cloture vote has been
forced for Monday, January 30 at 4 PM, on an Alito
filibuster, which the mainstream media had written off as a possibility. The bottom line is that any senator who betrays the interests of the people by not supporting this filibuster must NEVER hold public office as a Democrat again. If the will of the people is not heard at the cloture vote, it WILL be heard in every election from now on. To this cause we dedicate our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor. THE CONSTITUENT RALLY The most important and critical thing we must do is generate as many phone calls as possible. Personal phone calls are the highest impact way to make your opinion known. We have been told that calls and faxes to the senators' LOCAL district offices are given the highest weight. You can look up all their number in an instant at http://www.nocrony.com You should try the local numbers first, leave messages there and then ALSO try them in Washington where you can call any senator toll free at 888-355-3588, 888-818-6641 or 800-426-8073. We need get as much done on this today, a day we are calling Filibuster Friday II, while they will definitely be in their offices. And then we need to keep it going all weekend long, as long as there is a senator's answering machine connected anywhere. Now that we know how close we are to winning it will be much easier to inspire everyone else you know to also speak out. Remind them that the mainstream media lied by trying to tell us there wouldn't even be a filibuster. If they don't think we can prevail they have seriously misunderestimated the power of the people again. All progressive blogs, news digest sites and opinion sites must dedicate a feature section at the top of your main page for links and toll-free phone number to encourage your visitors to speak out. http://www.buzzflash.com in particular is setting a magnificent example with headlines to action links plastered all over their main page. As a progressive community we control an ENORMOUS amount of conglomerate web page space, which if applied in unison will be overpowering. After you've made all your calls and sent all your faxes, you should sign the petition at http://www.johnkerry.com/action/alito/, and you can send personal real time messages direct to your senators internet gateways with the one click form also at http://www.nocrony.com |

shifted a little so no time to quit. Let's put our shoulder to the
wheels on this one. If we can keep Alito out, we can proceed to the
next stage of charging the entire administration with treason with
some hope of winning. With Alito on the court, the Neocons will
only be stopped by a revolution. So, either the peaceful, legal way
NOW, or endless suffering later...

26 Jan 06 Sen. John Kerry told CNN Thursday that
he's attempting to pull support together for a filibuster of
right-wing Supreme Court nominee Samuel J. Alito Jr. Apparently he
has the backing of fellow Massachusetts Sen. Ted Kennedy. But many
Democrats appear apprehensive about supporting such a measure, and
the White House says a filibuster will make the Democrats look bad.
Come again? The White House? We're talking Bush administration
officials saying Democrats will look bad?
Can a party possibly look any worse than the Republicans do right now with the litany of moral, ethical and criminal charges facing them? Are the Busheviks for real? |

Time is short, the stakes are high; you
only need to fill out 1 form to send 12 faxes automatically
... use THIS link http://www.savethecourt.org/alitofilibuster to reach 12 key senators ... Senator Kerry has boldly called for a filibuster of the Alito nomination. Heeding our calls to do everything possible to defeat Alito, Kerry has asked that activists now help convince his colleagues to join him. Please contact 12 key senators who can provide critical support to the filibuster effort by clicking on http://www.savethecourt.org/alitofilibuster. Then forward this email to anyone you know who is worried that Alito would likely condone the abuse of power by the president, vote to overturn Roe v. Wade, and help curtail Congress' ability to protect the civil rights, health, safety, and welfare of the American people. We must stand together and act now to prevent Senate Republican leaders from ramming this nomination through the Senate -- Time is of the essence. http://www.savethecourt.org/alitofilibuster Take action -- click here to contact your local newspaper or congress people: Contact 12 key senators with one fax today! Comment: Laura's letter
of the day is as follows: Dear Sir or Ma'am, As an editor of an
online journal with over 25 K readers per day, I am the recipient
of hundreds of emails from American citizens who are asking ME what
to do. Each one of them represents at least 250 to 300 other people
who do not write. I believe that 80% of the American people would
support Impeachment of the entire Administration and the calling of
a new, supervised, election. America has been taken over by a gang
of criminals, fascist thugs. If you do NOT see this, then you have
no business in the job you are in. If you DO see it and do nothing,
then you are as guilty as the thugs who have stolen two elections
and now plan to make all their illegal acts legal with the help of
Judge Alito. You must STOP the confirmation of this judge, and you
must demand a criminal investigation into the activities of the
Bush Administration related to spying on the American people, lying
to Congress and the American people about WMDs in Iraq, and
numerous other crimes that will undoubtedly be uncovered if an
independent investigation is made. If Congress does NOT do its job,
these same people will, eventually, do it for them. Don't tell us
to eat cake, do your job and you will find that the support is
there. My ancestors didn't fight the Revolution for spineless
representatives to give our freedom away... If George Bush has been
spying on you and has you in a bind, intimidating you to vote for
Alito, come clean. Admit it, America can forgive anything but
cowardice. Patriotically, Laura Knight
