NY Times 19 Jan 2006 WASHINGTON - The Bush administration
today offered its fullest defense of the National Security Agency's
domestic eavesdropping program, saying that congressional
authorization to defeat Al Qaeda after the Sept. 11 attacks "places
the president at the zenith of his powers in authorizing the N.S.A.
activities."
In a 42-page white paper, the Justice Department expanded on its past arguments in laying out the legal rationale for why the N.S.A. program does not violate federal wiretap law and why the president is the nation's "sole organ" for foreign affairs. Comment: "The President
is the Nation's sole organ for foreign affairs"??? Say WHAT? Are we
talking about the guy who, when he became president, hardly knew
the names of other countries much less the names of their leaders?
And this nitwit is placed at "the Zenith of his powers" by the
attacks on 9-11??? Excuuuuse us?
Anyone with two neurons firing can figure out that this administration was complicit in the very event that they are using to justify an extraordinary power grab. Again and again it is clear that having a truly objective, competent and independent investigation into 9-11 would settle this hash immediately. So it seems that exposing 9-11 for what it really was is the main job of everyone who wants to bring freedom and democracy back to the US. |

January 19, 2006 In a detailed 42-page legal memorandum
set for release this evening the Bush Justice Department will
defend the President's warrantless wiretap program as legal. A copy
of the document was leaked to RAW STORY.
"The NSA activities are supported by the President’s well-recognized inherent constitutional authority as Commander in Chief and sole organ for the Nation in foreign affairs to conduct warrantless surveillance of enemy forces for intelligence purposes to detect and disrupt armed attacks on the United States," Justice Department lawyers write, referring to the President's order to wiretap Americans' calls overseas. It adds, "The President has the chief responsibility under the Constitution to protect America from attack, and the Constitution gives the President the authority necessary to fulfill that solemn responsibility." |

19 Jan 2006 Al Gore stood tall with the truth about
the direction of this administration on Monday and was virtually
ignored by the mainstream press and castigated by the culprits
themselves.
Garrison Keillor, A Prairie Home Companion , calls it the big lie and asks this pertinent question; Who tells the truth to a man ~ or perhaps a nation ~ driving into the setting sun, convinced he's heading due east ? Comment: Boris
Mouravieff on lying,
We live in a world ruled by lies. Lying and stealing are the dominant elements of human character whatever the race, creed or caste. Whoever says that this is not true simply tells another lie. Man lies because in a world ruled by lies it is not possible for him to do otherwise. To all that has already been said, one must add the following peculiarity which at first looks paradoxical; that the progress of this civilization, which is the fruit of an intellectual culture, considerably increases the need for lying. Jesus told the Jews: “your father is the devil and it is your will to do the lusts of your father ...He standeth not in the truth because there is no truth in him. When he uttereth a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar and the father of lies. (John viii: 44) It is evident that this sentence does not only apply to the Jews and to biblical times, but applies to man, whatever era and whatever race he belongs to... Talleyrand used to say that language was given to man to conceal his thoughts. Yet man feels that he should not lie. In his inmost heart lives a vague memory of the pure, unperverted consciousness he had before the "fall of Adam." Every normal and sane human being experiences, more than once, nostalgia for an uncorrupted life, and bitter regret that they are snared in the meshes of cheating, both moral and material. Man, however, lets himself be bound more and more in life: his faculty for lying gives him the marvellous impression of being able to arrange things for the best in difficult situations, but he forgets that lies, once uttered, put him under obligation. Imaginary facts created in these acts demand a context which, if not completely identical, must at least support the circumstances within which we live and act. As long as we deal with insignificant facts, lying does not often result in serious consequences; conversely, in the absence of an adequate context, a serious lie unfailingly leads to a catastrophe commensurate with the importance of the problem. We remain unaware of this link between statement and context, which is the underlying reason why this law applies with the harsh rigidity to which Jesus drew our attention by saying: 'There is nothing covered that shall not be revealed; nor hid that shall not be known and exposed to the light of day'. (Matthew x: 26; Mark iv: 22; Luke viii: 17; xii: 2) In talking about this to his disciples, Jesus added: "Before anything else, beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees which is hypocrisy," (Luke xii: 1) the form of lie which is most pernicious... If we refer to the different aspects of this subject, an analysis of lying permits us to distinguish the following modes: *Lying to others; *Lying to oneself; *Useful lies; *Useless lies. To these classic cases of lying, one must add two particular cases: *Hypocrisy: the pretence of virtue, of praiseworthy sentiments, with the intent to deceive persons of good faith; *The integral lie: this characterizes that person who, from a habit of lying and cheating on every occasion, ends by believing his own lies and thus loses all sense of truth. These two last cases are the hardest to cure: hypocrisy, in fact, must be deeply rooted in the Personality of the human being to become an element of his behaviour. To overcome this tendency within oneself requires considerable and painful efforts. No fruitful esoteric work can be undertaken by anyone who has not first rid himself of this vice. It is dangerous for a hypocrite even to start searching for the Way, as he is condemned to fall in advance. It is the same for him who has become a prey to integral lying. Nevertheless, if these lies are not soiled with hypocrisy, meaning that if the intentional mythomaniac element is entirely lacking, this case is easier to cure than the preceding one. It is anyway rather rare for persons suffering from these defects to become interested in esoteric teaching. Oriented towards the true, this teaching exercises a strong repulsion on those who suffer from these mental anomalies. |

Salon 19 Jan 06 Hardly anyone in the Republican Party, in
Congress or at the White House, seems to recall ever having met
Jack Abramoff. Collective amnesia has suddenly descended upon the
capital.
The super-lobbyist, whose plea bargain with prosecutors requires the extensive naming of names of members of Congress, staffers, ex-staffers, lobbyists, friends, colleagues and his own personal assistants, is spending his days racking his memory for details of their relationships that may become the basis for bills of indictment. Abramoff, who pleaded guilty to fraud, tax evasion and conspiracy to bribe public officials, has left a trail of hard evidence in addition to his sworn confessions. At the end of every business day his former assistant wrote a summary of all his contacts and their conversations, e-mailed it to him and carefully saved it; these documents mapping the days and ways of Jack Abramoff are now in the hands of the prosecutors. |

Buzzflash editorial
January 20, 2006 And so it was written.
Shortly after the "Supreme Court Partisan Five" stole the election for Bush in 2000, Tom Daschle struck a deal with the Texas transition team. The deal went something like this: the Democrats in the Senate would not contest Bush's selection by the Supreme Court as President of the United States and they wouldn't filibuster his cabinet appointments. In return, the Democrats would get the right to weigh in on Supreme Court appointments and contest any that they thought were too extreme. |

Arizona Citizens for Election Reform 19 Jan 2006 The last time I saw a group of people
self-destruct like this in front of an audience was when I was at
the circus where I watched one of those little clown cars come
careening out from the curtains, squishing through the elephant
dung, crashing into the center ring, and sending them flying in all
directions.

19 Jan 06 As coincidence would have it, Mark
Crispin Miller’s new book, Fooled Again (Basic Books),
documenting the Republican theft of the 2004 presidential election,
arrived in the same mail delivery with the January 12 edition of
the Defuniak Springs Herald, the locally owned weekly newspaper in
a Florida panhandle county seat.

Empire Burlesque 19 Jan 06 Things are looking a bit grim for the
Bush Faction these days. Their chief bagman, Jack Abramoff, is in
the clink, naming names. Their top congressional enforcer, Tom
Delay, is in the dock, sinking fast. Their "war of choice" in Iraq
has stalled in murderous quagmire. Their poll numbers are
plummeting, as scandal after scandal -- corruption, despotism,
torture, incompetence, deceit -- turn the American people against
them. What then will be the fate of these brutal, bungling,
bloodstained goons when they face the voters in the coming
elections?
Why, victory, of course! |

19 Jan 2006 WASHINGTON - The Washington Post shut
down one of its blogs Thursday after the newspaper's ombudsman
raised the ire of readers by writing that lobbyist Jack Abramoff
gave money to the Democrats as well as to Republicans.
Comment: Maybe the
Washington Post ought to consider exactly what it was that got
everybody going on this one? The report doesn't say if the nasty
attacks were aimed at the Post author or at anyone who sought to
argue with the author.

The Associated Press

WASHINGTON -- Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid on Thursday apologized to 33 Republican senators singled out for ethics criticism in a report from his office titled "Republican Abuse of Power." "The document released by my office yesterday went too far and I want to convey to you my personal regrets," Reid said in a letter. "I am writing to apologize for the tone of this document and the decision to single out individual senators for criticism in it." Comment: Maybe somebody
found the "dirty laundry" in Reid's closet and proposed to air it
via a Third Party Protocol if he doesn't back down and make nice
with the Neocons? See Laura's
blog for the inside scoop on COINTELPRO.

Dan Glaister in Los Angeles
Thursday January 19, 2006 The Guardian It is the sort of invitation any
poverty-stricken student would find hard to resist. "Do you have a
professor who just can't stop talking about President Bush, about
the war in Iraq, about the Republican party, or any other
ideological issue that has nothing to do with the class subject
matter? If you help ... expose the professor, we'll pay you for
your work."
For full notes, a tape recording and a copy of all teaching materials, students at the University of California Los Angeles are being offered $100 (£57) - the tape recorder is provided free of charge - by an alumni group. Comment: Now, this
COINTELPRO operation is using a blatant paramoralism when they say:
"We are concerned solely with indoctrination, one-sided
presentation of ideological controversies and unprofessional
classroom behaviour, no matter where it falls on the ideological
spectrum."
As the Guardian rightly points out, the REAL reason they are engaged in this "operation" is because they are using it to "vector" public opinion. They want to make sure that everyone supports the phoney "war on terror." “Terrorism is changing. New adversaries, new motivations and new rationales have surfaced in recent years to challenge much of the conventional wisdom...” wrote Dr. Bruce Hoffman, Director of RAND. And he was right. The only problem is, the reader is largely unaware of the definition of “new adversaries” that might be implied in his remarks. He is talking about anyone who questions the actions of the government. Anyone who objects to the institution of the New World Order - which is the agenda of the Neocons - is a potential "terrorist." And it is for this reason that COINTELPRO exists. The activities of COINTELPRO in attempting to neutralize political opposition have been pretty well exposed. The COINTELPRO files show the U.S. Government targeted a very broad range of religious, labor and community groups opposed to any of its agendas, and it is only logical to assume that the same type of operation would be created to cover up the agenda of the Pathocrats seeking Global Dominance by means of endless war. What all of this seems to suggest is that the Powers That Be (PTB) have developed COINTELPRO to an all new level of Social Shaping, Cultural Brainwashing, and the main targets of this activity would include virtually anyone who is seeking the truth about the shifting realities of our world. The cases of COINTELPRO activities against political groups must be no more than the tip of the iceberg, given that the great bulk of COINTELPRO-type operations remain secret until long after their damage has been done. By all indications, domestic covert operations have become a permanent feature of U.S. politics and Social Programming and this story is a typical example. |
